Should we get a second opinion

Last reply: 15 May 2025 09:51
My husband has a suspicious lesion on his lower back. He has shown to his GP who said it is a build up of protein. But is doesn't look like that it looks like a melanoma. The reason I am doubting the doctor is that four years ago I had a lesion on my face that I went to my GP with and I was told it was nothing to worry about. Last month I had it removed as it was Basel cell carcinoma. My husbands lesion is irregular in shape and colour and is only there about 18 months. I wish I could include a picture. Should I push to have him seen by a dermatologist?

Low white blood cells

Last reply: 16 May 2025 13:08
Hi...my last chemotherapy was January 2021 and Herceptin September 21 also. I had a full response and got the all clear. 6 months ago I went for a blood test to the gp ( this was just something I decided myself) My white blood cell count came back low. The doctor said this often happens after treatment. Has anyone else experienced it? I will go for a recheck next week.

Breast Cancer

Last reply: 08 May 2025 16:59
I am 3 weeks post chemo amd waiting to start radiotherapy in the next week or two. I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal back in October. While in the shower a few days ago I discovered a lump in my other breast which is freaking me out a bit. I rang the hospital and was speaking to one of the nurses. She said she will speak to the surgeon and i will be called up for an appointment so im just waiting for them to get back to me now. Could it be possible to develop another cancerous lump after doing chemo?

Breast biopsy

Last reply: 28 April 2025 16:33
Why would I be brought back for another mammogram 3 weeks after core breast biopsy when a mammogram was already taken immediately after the core biopsy. I was told core biopsy was clear but another mammogram so soon does not fit with a clear result.

Hair thinning

Last reply: 15 April 2025 13:51
Hello, I was diagnosed with MBC in November and started treatment in January 2025. Letrozole and ribociclib. I've notice that my hair line is receeding, my eyebrows are thinner. Are there recommended treatments/products that I can use that won't interfere with my treatment. Thank you, Carol.

Follow up appointment

Last reply: 01 April 2025 10:43
Hi there, I had a mammogram in January and then attended tge breast clinic 10 days later for a scan of the breast. I was told by the scan technician that all was clear, she had a brief 2min talk with the consultant in the next room, I was told all was clear and I was sent home. However on Sunday, today is now Tuesday,I got a text to go to the breast clinic again and when I messaged the clinic to ask why I was back, I was told it was a follow up appointment. Is this normal after I've been discharged from their care with nothing abnormal.

Galway symptomatic breast clinic

Last reply: 06 March 2025 11:42
Hi, I have a question about referrals for a breast lump. Quick history. I had a benign phyllodes tumour removed last year. I went private for the surgery. 5 months later I have a new lump. My GP has sent a referral to the private surgeon. Can a private referral be longer wait times than going public? It's been 2 weeks and I don't have an appointment yet. Due to my age, my referral would have been sent as urgent. Do you happen to know current wait times for urgent referrals in Galway in the public system? Thanks

Pain in hips

Last reply: 28 January 2025 19:53
I had stage 2 breast cancer and finished all treatment in April 2024. I’ve noticed an on going and persistent pain in my hips, in what feels like my hip bones. I don’t know what arthritis feels like but I feel like this must be what it is like! Very stiff, painful, when I stand up I’m like a 90 yr old little old lady. Sitting cross legged or lying down on my sides has them feeling on fire. Sometimes I just get up in the morning and they’re already painful and stiff and I’m just standing there. Is this something that could have been caused by the chemo or treatment? I’m nearly a year since finishing oral chemo and over a year since finished IV chemo… could it still be effecting me? Can I be given anything to help this pain?

Re-locating -Changing Hospitals

Last reply: 25 January 2025 00:13
Hi there, Hope you are well. I'm just wondering if you know where I could get information about this. I'm moving to Dublin next month but I've been to see a consultant in Cork and had a biopsy. The biopsy sample has been sent back for further testing. I told the consultant's receptionist that I'll be moving to Dublin, she said we can discuss this at a later date. She said the biopsy results will take a few weeks and we can discuss it then. Is there any way of finding out sooner, if it is cancer, can I be transferred to a hospital in Dublin and would there be a delay in getting treatment because of the transfer? Can I choose which hospital in Dublin ore do they choose for you? They more or less said it was cancer, they just need to know what type. Thank you for any advice you can give, Angela.

Prostate with severe pain

Last reply: 05 February 2025 18:48
My dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He never displayed any of the normal signs (frequent peeing etc) . He had pain in his "hip" for several months and after visiting a physio the pain Increased so he went to GP and got bloods. Bloods were irregular so he was referred to mater where he was diagnosed. After initial scans his surgeon displayed signs of urgency and wanted us to go to UK royal marsden for PSMA scan. Me my dad and my mum went to London on 16th December for scan. Follow up with surgeon was on 6th Jan where he was told surgery not an option. Cancer not in bones but it's in lymph nodes. They were told that surgeon was passing him on to a new consultant to discuss treatment plan. Dad has started hormone tablets 1 per day and hormone injection to be administered after day 21 of tablets. Meanwhile referral has been sent to Beaumont for additional treatment (radium) but we are still waiting to hear back. My concern is and it's why I'm here is to find out if anyone else is experiencing this severe pain in the pelvic area that my dad is suffering? Have they missed something? On my research I can't seem to relate the pain my dad is suffering to this diagnosis. I want to put my faith in the professionals but what if they are missing something? We have been told its not spread to bones but what if it's rapidly spreading as we speak and hormone tablets aren't enough. Just love some feedback as I don't want my dad to be treated by protocol if he needs more urgency but we are too ignorant to speak up. Thanks DeeDee
