Follow up appointment
Hi there, I had a mammogram in January and then attended tge breast clinic 10 days later for a scan of the breast. I was told by the scan technician that all was clear, she had a brief 2min talk with the consultant in the next room, I was told all was clear and I was sent home. However on Sunday, today is now Tuesday,I got a text to go to the breast clinic again and when I messaged the clinic to ask why I was back, I was told it was a follow up appointment. Is this normal after I've been discharged from their care with nothing abnormal.
Hi just_me, yep I contacted them on the Tuesday and they said it was a follow up. I tried the secretary number but just going to voicemail. But like u said, im not too worried as they said it was a clear mammogram. I just think receiving a text with no letter or call, it makes you nervous, terrified in fact... Previously had a gynae cancer and received treatment for that so I've been over analysing everything. But will post on Monday when home 👍
Oh I know, the anxiety never really leaves you.
Would that be the reason perhaps? Because you had cancer, maybe they want to observe you a little closer and the appointment is to tell you that.
Put it out of your head until Monday and enjoy your weekend. All will be completely fine x

Dear chickaroo,
Thank you for posting to the online community ‘Ask a Nurse’ section and apologies for the delay in responding to your query.
I hope you are doing ok. It is understandably worrying when asked to return for an appointment when it wasn’t mentioned prior to it. There are a number of reasons why you may be brought back for a follow up appointment, and it is reassuring that they were happy that the scan was clear. You mentioned your appointment is Monday, so I do hope you are seen today and are reassured.
If you would like to speak to one of our nurses, please don’t hesitate to call our Support Line on 1800 200 700, Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm.
Kind regards,
Cancer Nurse
Hope everything went OK x
That seems quite unusual. If it was a year later I would say its just observation. But thr fact that they told you you've no concern, then I would take that. A mammogram then ultrasound is quite thorough. Perhaps they just want to explain or Perhaps its an admin error. Can you call them? Will you let us know here? But personally I woukdnt be very worried, especially if you heard the words, you are clear.
