My dad has just been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, I have been reading a lot about proton treatment etc and some good things about Germany for treatment. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this and any recommendations. Thanks in advance

SCLC - what's going to happen

Last reply: 02 October 2017 23:57
My husband was diagnosed with SCLC in November 2016. We were in shock, he went from playing golf on November 22 to getting a diagnosis of advanced lung cancer on November 25th. This was quickly followed by hospitalization on December 11 with pain and dehydration,(lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks). Started chemo, cisplatin and etopiside on December 19, and has had six chemo, ten chest radiation and four whole brain preventative radiation which was finished May 5. He has been hospitalized since May 2 with infections and pneumonia, hes still in as the temp is still going up ....we were shocked, we had this vision that he would be resting at home in May, not sick in the hospital.. We are shattered, and worried, as if this is what is going to happen then how will he survive if he needs additional chemo after the next scans? I'd love to connect with someone who is. going through SCLC, I don't what to expect and I'm worried about his care.

Still checking in

Last reply: 01 March 2016 11:50
Hello, just to say a year on and I still check in on this website with totally admiration for patients, their families & nursing staff. The cancer journey is a very difficult one & I think of all the Irish people on this journey, people I do not know but people that I understand how it is for them. Take care everyone.

Small Cell Cancer (Lung cancer)

Last reply: 21 October 2015 11:50
Just wondering if there is anyone out there that is living with someone with small cell cancer (lung cancer). My husband has just finished chemo which went ok, scan soon to determine if radiotherapy can start on lung. This would be followed by preventative brain radiotherapy. Are there any success, long term stories to be told. How hopeful dare I be that the chemo went well & he is doing ok, even put on weight.

Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)

Last reply: 21 October 2015 11:50
Hi again, Hx finished chemo & plan was to go to radiotherapy, but this has stalled without a given reason, yet. Anyone else in same boat? Know why? How soon, statistically, have symtoms, returned for sclc after chemo? Know it will vary case by case, but on average, how long do the benefits of chemo last? (Etoposide & Carobplatin). Scans done when chemo finished & all good, shrinkage, maybe not enough, what is % looked for? Tks

Prognosis

Last reply: 12 October 2015 11:22
Hi, I'm a new person to this. My father was diagnosed with lung cancer in August & has 1 blast of chemo. I just found out last night that his chemo treatment is only to help him cope rather then been given for cure reasons. I have not been bringing him to his appointments & I feel like I am not been given all the information. If its a case that it has spread to his bones, which I believe it has & it is in his lymph nodes, would he have been given a time span, prognosis or do they only give that info if you ask the doctors? Thanks in advance for any help, its all muddy water to me!
