starting taxol

Last reply: 05 November 2012 13:31

Hi there ,

I have just finished 4 sessions of the 3 weekly AC/5fU chemo in which I found the first 10 days pretty tough on and off .The side effects improved as I went along though I had to enlist help to mind my nearly 3 year old .On day 6 and 7 my balance used to get really bad and awful tension in my head .

Anyway woohoo I am finished that cycle of chemo .....so next on to the weekly Taxol. can anyone tell me how they are getting on with Taxol . I believe it won't be as strong as the AC but could have different side effects .Also I have to take quite a few steroids the night before ...sleepless night perhaps?!

first time posting ,have meant to for ages ...!

Thanks
Sandra

Hi Sandra
Good for you getting the AC over with. I hated it. I just finished taxol last week and found it much easier. The different side effects for me were frozen feeling in fingertips and toes. And if I do too much walking and standing, I get pains in my knees and lower legs. But nothing too bad compared to being sick with the AC.
If you have a look down the list of posts, I started asking questions before I started taxol in August, it's called taxol-terrified, and lots of ladies gave advice and tips. And don't be terrified, it's not bad at all.
As for the steroids, you will find me moaning about them under the post about dexamethasone!

Best of luck with it.

Hi Sandra

Thats great you got that finished with and I too am glad to hear that Taxol isnt so bad.

Interesting that you say you were not well for 10 days or so and that day 6/7 were pretty bad. My day six was a nightmare and managed to make it to work but was like a zombie literally picked myself up off the bathroom floor to go to work.

Best of luck with the Taxol your getting further down thejourney Image removed.

Hi there!
Glad to hear you have completed the first leg of treatment - hopefully you will find Taxol alot easier. As previously mentioned, neuropathy is the main offender in side-effects; if you feel anything strange in your fingers or feet, make sure to tell them as it is easier reverse the symptoms early in the day. It might mean treatment being put off until side-effects diminish but it definitely easier doing that than putting up with some of the awful long term effects people have to live with.
Best of luck x

Thanks very much for feedback !

Am going to look through the previous posts now so thanks for that tip .
Glad to hear that others hated the AC I thought I was just getting all the side effects ....thought it would have being easier with all the great meds. Mum had breast cancer and Chemo at the time was pretty awful...So they have come a long way since then.

Wish you all well Image removed.
