Government Benefits for Wife Diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Last reply: 17 June 2025 15:20

Hey All

I hope everyone is doing well

My wife was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma this month, so we applied for the Illness Benefit. However, she doesn't have enough PRSI contributions. I then looked into the Supplementary Welfare Allowance, but I believe we may not pass the means test. I was wondering if there are any other government supports available to her, as she will not be able to work during her treatment.

Hi Cfortuna,

Thank you for your message. I do hope that you and your wife are keeping well.

The Irish Cancer Society has a Welfare and Supports team who may be able to offer some information about supports that may be available for your wife. You can contact the Support Line on 1800 200 700, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. You could also ask to be referred to the hospital social worker who would also be able to advise you about supports.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse
