Radiotherapy side effects

I am 3 weeks post radiotherapy for breast cancer, chemotherapy was not required based on my diagnosis. My breast is still very painful and very irritated and I am continuing to use E45 cream 3 times a day, I have been told to stop using the hydrocortosine cream. I was wondering if anyone else has had similar side effects and how long they last. I was told 2 (ish) weeks but nearly at 4 weeks now, I understand everyone is different but its very uncomfortable. I've contacted the radiotherapy unit and they said its normal but if it persists this week I'll need to go back..
Thanks so much in advance
Dear VLarkin1974.
Thank you for posting on our online forum. I am sorry to read that you were diagnosed with breast cancer and are having skin issues post your radiotherapy. I hope that you hear from others who may be able to address your query. In the meantime, I hope that the following information helps.
While skin reactions typically resolve 4 weeks after completing treatment, research has shown that >50% of women report sensation changes in the breast 3 months post-treatment, which include numbness, tingling, burning, and increased sensitivity. Another study found that 55% of women who were treated with radiation for their breast cancer still had symptoms such as dry, red, and itching skin at 6 months post-treatment.
Don't use talcum powder because this can contain tiny metal particles that can make the soreness worse after radiotherapy.
Your radiographers or nurses might put on special dressings after your treatment if the cancer is affecting your skin. Don't use sticky (adhesive) tape or dressings in the treatment area.
Other skin care tips when washing and shaving in the treatment area include:
