Pregnancy post tram reconstruction

Last reply: 29 April 2010 21:56

I had a tram flap reconstruction post mastectomy in 2005 and am now pregnant, just wondering if any one else out there has carried a pregnancy to term post tram?

Hi Hugs

Thanks for your kind words.. not sure if there are too many cases of pregnancy post Tram flap, im 32 weeks gone so im well on my way and over the moon but v short of breath with abdominal restriction from surgery, baby has had meds to help develop lungs incase i cant carry to term, my obestetrician has not experienced a pregnancy following this type surgery either so i guess im just a bit anxious Image removed.

Wow, that is great!!!
I can understand you being worried alright, but you are in good hands.
You must be excited, as well as being anxious. It just goes to show that life really can go on after BC.
Keep us up to date, and look after yourself and baby xx

Youre right, theres only one of me, the world couldnt cope with two...lol

Yep, im in the middle of this whole bunch of crap at the moment. Although i still feel as if im stuck at the beginning. Having had a lumpectomy and a re exision, and now waiting for a mastectomy. I had asked for a mastectomy at the beginning, but was told its too drastic...lol

I just want it done so i can move onto the next stage. You would think i couldnt wait to have the chemo, but thats how i feel. I just want it started so it can finish Image removed.

Hi Belle,

First congratulations on your pregnancy, I hope things are still going ok.

I'd say there aren't too many women in Ireland who've been in the same boat as you; ie, having been unfortunate enough to need a tram recon post mastectomy at such a young age, but then being fortunate enough to successfully fall pregnant afterwards. However, you may have more luck posting your query on an international site, especially a US one. Try this one....

Hi Belle

Congrats on your pregnancy.

I am not much of a poster on this forum, just a lurker!! I was diagnosed in Dec08 and had mast in Feb 09 (following a failed lumpectomy!). I am looking forward to recon some time this summer.

Another suggestion for you is http://www.youngsurvival.org/bulletin-board It is a US web site for young women with breastcancer.

The 5th topic down is fertility and breastcancer. Suggest you register and post your query on either the fertility forum or the General forum (this gets more traffic!). There are quite a number of women who have had babies post bc and am sure some of them have had TRAM recon.

I am a bit addicted to the YSC site and have found it to be a huge source of information.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy. By the way I had my 2nd baba in June 08 a month early @35 weeks. She was tiny but fine.
