Herceptin rash

Last reply: 12 January 2013 13:45

Hi ladies another question for ya! I have had 11 sessions of herceptin to date. Just before my 10th one I developed an itchy rash on my head and I thought it was just my new hair. Now just before my 11th I have an itchy rash all over my face and chest. Nothing like this before, could it be a reaction to the herceptin? Anyone else ever had a reaction to herceptin?

Did you mention it to the doctor? I'm interested to hear if anyone else got this. I've only had six.

Eh no, I had a long list for Janice this week and the rash got left out. The last time they just sent the house doctor to look at my head, so I waited for the house doctor to look at my face this week. 2 different doctors so I don't think anyone has put it together yet, and different nurses. It might be nothing but just wondering if I am alone in this or should I raise the issue? Kinda hoping it's nothing I could do without anymore drug reactions Image removed.

I've never heard of it and effects on the heart muscle was the only thing that might be affected by the herceptin. Is it itchy or sore? Try the chemist they might give you a cream. How many more herceptins, 6?

Yeah another 6, I have to start tamoxifen soon, I put it off till the 28th, I seem to be a beacon for bad side effects and just hate the thought of starting more new drugs. I am still not fully back on my feet after op at the end of Nov, have expanders in as well which I find very uncomfortable and meeting the radiation oncologist on Monday to discuss starting that! There seems to be no end in sight to this bloody treatment. If I could buy energy I would, fed up sitting around! Sorry for rant Image removed.

Oh I'm sorry you're not feeling great. It's a lot of poison they put into us but I suppose its all part of the cure. I'm in for lumpectomy Monday week and I'm oestrogen negative so I don't have to go on the tamoxifen . Hopefully they'll sort your rash. I'm just coming out of the last chemo and I'm not sorry found it very tough. I feel I could take anything on after getting thru chemo. It's all consuming. Going to try and get some of my life back. Has your hair grown back can't wait till mine does I miss it

Hi Ania,

Might I suggest you call your onc nurse and tell them about the rash and let him ir her talk to your onc and see what makes most sense. We are supposed to tellnif there is anything unusual and it seems that thus might be unusual.

Do you think that something you are eating or drinking or using eg shampoo could be triggering the rash? I think our bodies become more sensitive when on chemo or herception somthings that would never have caused problems before cause things like rashes to a more sensitive body!

Hope you figure out what is causing this.

Hi Ania

I had 17 Herceptin with no problems - I don't think it would be any harm giving a ring to the team; if only to put your mind at rest. There are loads of unusual side effects that may not happen to alot of us, and this could be one.

Hi, I too had the full year of Herceptin & never encountered a rash. Am with encee on this, it could be one of the more unusual side effects so the medic's need to know. Best of luck.

Thanks ladies, thanks for all the advice! Its the only thing I can think of because I was on premeds for all the chemos and some of the herceptin treatments but they used to knock me out for about 3 days. I was on them for taxotere reactions so I figured I didn't need them with the herceptin so I requested that they be left out. So now I think that I am becoming more sensitive and will have to go back on the premeds. I will say it to the nurses when I am back up at the end of the month for round 12. I seem to be reaction prone. My body does not like all these drugs!
