Hi, I’m over 2.5 years post lumpectomy, and some lymph nodes removed,
2 years post chemo and almost 2 years post radiotherapy….i get some pain now and again in my breast, almost like a hot burning feeling…..is this normal to have after 2 years? I would also have some discomfort in my arm pit.
Dear twig88
Thank you for posting on our online forum. I am sorry to read about your breast cancer diagnosis and I do hope that you are recovering well after your treatment. I do hope that you hear from others who may be able to answer your query, but in the meantime, I hope the following information helps.
Pain after breast cancer treatment is a common and normal experience. It may be caused by injury to the skin, muscles, nerves or scar tissue during surgery or radiotherapy. Ongoing pain and discomfort can develop some time after treatment has finished. The pain may be in your scar, breast, armpit, arm, or shoulder. The pain may feel burning, shooting, tingling, or throbbing.
It is important to tell your GP or medical team about any ongoing pain or discomfort, especially if it is new or different from what you have had before. For some people, it may not be possible to be completely pain free, but the pain can be managed. You might find it useful to keep a pain diary, which you can show to your GP or treatment team. This may help with finding the best ways of managing your pain.
