After treatment for penile cancer
What follow-up do I need?
You will need to have regular check-ups once treatment is over. This is called follow-up.
The follow-up may involve physical exams, blood tests, X-rays and CT scans. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and to let the doctor know if you have any side-effects that are bothering you or if you are finding it hard to cope.
If you are between check-ups and have a symptom or problem that is worrying you, call your specialist nurse for advice or to arrange an earlier outpatients appointment, if necessary.
If you become suddenly unwell and can’t contact your specialist nurse or hospital team, go to your GP or the emergency department at the hospital.
What if the cancer comes back (recurrence)?
If the cancer comes back you can still have treatment. Your doctor will discuss your treatment options with you, or you can read more information on treatment for recurrent cancer.
