"We were blown away by everyone’s generosity."

Clontarf local Laura Shanahan and her cousin, Ali took on Marathon in a Month last year in honour of Ali’s mum, Avril who sadly died from secondary breast cancer in July 2019.

“I had taken part in Marathon in a Month in 2020 in honour of my aunt Avril and it was such a great experience and more importantly I was able to raise some money for the Irish Cancer Society. Taking part in the challenge lead me to take up running as a hobby so when the time came around to sign up again in 2021, it was no brainer for me.”

“My cousin Ali decided she also wanted to do it with me as a way to raise more money for the Irish Cancer Society but also as a tribute to her mum.”

“Avril was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and she is hugely missed by all that knew her however her impact still lives on and this was evident by the number of people who donated money to myself and Ali for taking part in the challenge. We were blown away by everyone’s generosity. We did not expect to raise as much as we did.”

“Marathon in a Month is a fantastic challenge to take part in, not only are you supporting the Irish Cancer Society but it is also a great opportunity to improve your fitness levels. It gives you a good excuse to get out every day to build up your KMs, all for a good cause.”
