Profile: Margaret, Irish Cancer Society Night Nurse
Margaret was one of the 200+ Night Nurses providing end of life care to cancer to patients in the comfort of their homes, surrounded by loved ones.
Margaret had been a nurse for 46 years and was working with the Irish Cancer Society for 5 years. Originally from Eslinbridge, Carrick-on-Shannon, Margaret says the job can be difficult, but she loved it.
As a Night Nurse, Margaret was often asked by the family of the patient how they will know if the person is dying, or if they’re hungry, thirsty. Each case is different, so Margaret, now retired, did her best to listen and answer each question.
“I provide comfort, I support families. I make it possible for them to continue caring for their loved one while they get to rest. I make a difference.”
