This National Volunteering Week, we continue to celebrate the power of volunteering to enrich our communities, bridge social divides, and create opportunities for meaningful connection.
Mary Catherine Falvey from Dublin volunteers each week in the Irish Cancer Society Head Office.
Mary shares a little about her volunteering work below:
“I decided to volunteer for the Irish Cancer Society in late 2022. My Mother and Mother-in-Law are cancer survivors. During their treatment I saw first-hand how caring, passionate and empathetic their caregivers were.
“The Irish Cancer Society and everyone who works with them were a wealth of information and a vital part of my family’s recovery. I’m a mum-of-two and wanted to give back to my community. I thought, what better way to do this than volunteering with such a worthy organisation.”
“I’ve worked with the Irish Cancer Society each week for the last six months and I love it. My role involves helping the staff here process driver applications for the drive to treatment service. I also get to speak to potential volunteer drivers and hear their reasons for volunteering.
I would recommend anyone who has free time and is looking for something meaningful in their lives, to sign up and volunteer with us here at the Irish Cancer Society.
“Volunteering has been an integral part of my weekly routine. I feel my work has value and is really appreciated, I get great satisfaction from it.
“I love interacting with the staff at the office and helping in any way I can. I also get to learn new skills along the way which stimulates me mentally. I work with a wonderful team and enjoy chatting over coffee before we begin our day. I would recommend anyone who has free time and is looking for something meaningful in their lives, to sign up and volunteer with us here at the Irish Cancer Society.”
