Blood Cancer Network Ireland symposium and public lecture

REMINDER - SAVE THE DATE!

Blood Cancer Network Ireland is proud to present the symposium ‘Blood Cancer Research: Focus on Immunotherapy and the Tumour Microenvironment’, on Friday, June 8, in the Richard Carmichael Lecture Theatre, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

This year the symposium will be followed by a free lecture open to the wider public about advances in blood cancer research and treatments.

The aim of the symposium is to provide Irish researchers and clinical staff with the opportunity to hear about the latest research and hottest topics in blood cancer research from international experts and to present their own work in this area.

This symposium will bring researchers in the fields of cancer drug discovery and haematological malignancies together with industry and clinical investigators interested in translating research findings into early clinical development. The scientific focus will be in the areas of immunotherapy and tumour microenvironment.

Confirmed guest speakers include: Philippe Moreau, University Hospital of Nantes, France; Martin Pule, University College London and Autolus; Maria Mateos, University Hospital of Salamanca, Spain; Gert Ossenkoppele, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Marieke Essers, Heidelberg Institute for Stem Cell Technology and Experimental Medicine, Germany.

The focus of the symposium on cutting edge research and cancer therapeutics development will make this a highly significant and relevant meeting for all researchers interested in applying research findings for clinical development in blood cancers.

There will be an opportunity for researchers to present posters in the area of immunotherapy, the tumour microenvironment and targeted therapies and approx. three posters will be selected for oral presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the best poster and oral presentation.

There will be an opportunity for young researchers to meet experts in the field at a "meet the experts" session

There will be a session on "Advances in blood cancer research" directed towards patients and their families at the end of the symposium

This Symposium is open to national and international researchers, clinicians, nurses, scientists and industry personnel with an interest in clinical and translational blood cancer research. A draft program and registration forms can be found on the Blood Cancer Network Ireland website.Registration forms should be emailed to Sinead Cassidy on sinead@sineadcassidy.com. Registration cost: €50.00.

Public lecture

If you or a loved one has blood cancer, or if you’re interested in learning more about blood cancer or BCNI’s clinical trials, you are welcome to attend the free public lecture, ‘Blood Cancers and Advances in Treatment’.

Blood cancer is a term for cancers which affect the cells or the blood or organs where blood cells grow and develop in the bone marrow and lymphatic system. There are three main types of blood cancer - leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

There are more than 1,900 cases of blood cancers diagnosed each year in Ireland. Blood cancers make up approximately 10% of all cancers and are the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths in Ireland.

At this free event, taking place on Friday, June 8 from 4-5:30pm, in the Richard Carmichael Lecture Theatre, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, leading Blood Cancer Network Ireland researchers will outline what blood cancers are, advances in treatments, and what BCNI is doing here to progress research and save more lives.

If you’d like to attend this free event please register by emailing BCNI@nuigalyway.ie. For more information please see www.bloodcancers.ie.
