Hi all. I found a lump on my breast three weeks ago now. There is a history of breast cancer on in my maternal grandmother and great aunt. I’m only 36 but I’m really worried. I went straight to the gp who feels it is a cyst but because of my family history she said she would refer me urgently to the symptomatic breast clinic and I would be seen within 3 weeks. I’ve been going out of my mind with worry. I had heard nothing and rang a few times - today I learned that I have been triaged as a routine appointment and I will get an appointment at some stage’. I don’t even have a date. I am now sitting up crying and worried and I’m so angry that someone along the line hasn’t taken me seriously enough. I inquired about going private to my gp and she said there was no need, that I’d be seen within 3 weeks. I’ve looked at the breast clinic referral for pathways and it states that if I have a unilateral discrete mass I am considered an urgent referral. I can’t understand how I am considered routine with a lump and a family history. I know that I should be ok age wise but I also know a women a few years older than me who is currently going through chemotherapy and I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m so anxious and angry. Can anyone shed any light on what has happened here and why the clinic are shrugging their shoulders? Thank you and I hope everyone’s ok xx

Hi so I felt discomfort underneath my armpit about 4 weeks ago while shaving in the shower I left it thinking maybe a swollen gland then a few days ago I felt it again 1 evening while watching tv so I felt around and near the edge of my armpit there was a lump I kept feeling and then felt a lump on my breast all on the left side yesterday morning when I woke the top of my arm felt dead or heavy I called go and went in for a check up he also could feel both he said there is a lot of pain and discomfort there and inflammation there is family history of breast cancer my nanny died from breast cancer at 46 and some of her daughters have had lumps removed not sure if they were cancerous though but I’m only turning 30 in 3 weeks time I have 4 kids 1 who is autistic adhd and odd his twin has intellectual disabilities and the youngest is possibly adhd although not diagnosed yet I’m very worried because of this my gp has reffered me to breast clinic said I will be seen within 6 weeks he prescribed inflammatory tablets and gave me difene for pain should I be worried or could it be nothing

Hi, I found a suspicious looking mole on my body and have been referred by my gp to have it removed. I’m 25 years old and feeling really worried as it could take a couple of months to be seen because of the Corona virus. The doctor also told me to contact them if I notice any changes before I am seen. I guess I just want to air my worries as I’m feeling really anxious because I don’t know how long I’ll be waiting and if it is something serious the impact the waiting will have.

Hi, On Feb 21st I met a consultant (privately) who expressed concern upon examining a suspicious mole on the bridge of my left foot. He told me he would get an appointment for me to have it removed in the following fortnight. The next week on the 28th I received a phone call with an appointment made for the Monday March 2nd. He removed the entire mole along with extra tissue surrounding the mole and underneath the mole and informed me he was marking 'urgent' on the tests and he hoped to have results within 2 weeks. Before I left the hospital the nurse handed me information for my GP (I had 2 layers of stitches and the top layer needed to be removed after 2 weeks) and she said it would be 6 weeks before I get the results. It is now nearly 8 weeks and I haven't heard a dickie bird. I understand the Covid-19 is delaying labs and test results, but I thought I would have heard something by now, Is anyone else waiting as long as me?

Hi guys im new to this actually just joined when i found this post last night. im just wondering would you be waiting long from an urgent request of 2 weeks to be seen in James Hospital for breast lumps, this was last Wednesday . im just wondering anyone else have same problem and what was there outcome. im going out of my mind eve4ry day wit worry and wit this current climate in the world , not making it easier. crying every day and trying to hide from my kids. i really dont no im going out of my mind. ~Ive got a lump in the 2 breast , one breast has pain other dosent. just wondering do we get a call or a letter ?? for the 2 weeks urgently for when we will be called ?? Just dont no who to chat too. and cant meet up for cuppa wit noone either. have great family and support but not the same at this current time. sorry for the questions

Hi Having chemo for breast cancer and one of the side effects is nose bleeds. Anyone any advice on this as I have had them this week.

Hello to all the beautiful courageous women that end up coming here looking for answers, support or reassurance, as I did too a few days ago. Like some or most of you I also found changes in my breast and went to my GP to ask for a mammogram as I'm 48 and not covered by the national screening program yet. What followed were 3 weeks of uncertainty and disbelief. After the mammogram I was sent for an ultrasound. After the ultrasound I had a biopsy of 4 samples and 4 titanium tiny pins inserted into my breast to highlight the precise location from my samples. And then was sent home to wait for 2 weeks. On the first week I got very busy at work and tried to stay positive thinking breastcancer was not a death sentence anymore and that although a terrifying experience, I was sure to have caught it early...but on the second week I found by pure chance a hard small lump over my left collarbone that drained all the blood from my face and changed my mood, energy and positivity, wondering if the cancer could have spread and could it actually be terminal...That became the most stressful week of my life just waiting for the results.... And the results came back negative, I did not have breast cancer, but I broke down at the clinic sobbing uncontrollably for 5 minutes. When I finally managed to compose myself I told the doctor waiting for 2 weeks to know whether you have breast cancer is inhumane and unbereable, and another unnecessary suffering inflicted on women in this island. And that's when he told me what I wish I had known before embarking on this journey! Speaking of the Breast clinic I attended in Dublin he said when they highly suspect breast cancer in a woman the team talks to the woman on the same day of the biopsy to prepare her for bad news, and they prioritise her biopsy results to avoid her a long waiting time. He said at no point the medical team reviewing my case suspected I had cancer, and he did apologise if anyone in the clinic made me think so, which I did feel it was the case with every single nurse wishing me good luck, and my radiologist really very worried over my mass of extended scar tissue without having suffered any injury or trauma in the area... So I wanted to share this piece of information with you just in case someone else is in a similar situation...Luckily for me I don't know how fast they would have acted had I got breast cancer, but I do want to believe him and trust that when something is wrong with any of us, our health system kicks into action ASAP without punitive delays that only add to the stress and anxiety of the millions of people facing this disease.
