Men Against Cancer (MAC) is a support group for men with prostate cancer. Nobody knows like somebody who has been through it.. if you would like to share in the knowledge and experience of a man who has been through a prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, please contact the nurses on the prostate cancer information service at free phone: 1800 380 380. They will put you in touch with a volunteer.

My Dad Has just been diagnosed

Last reply: 17 July 2009 15:58
Hi, My Dad ahs just been diagnosed with prostate Cancer and they say that it is moderate as they did not catch it early. He has been for an MRI (which he hates as he is very clostraphobic) and thus showed some "hotspots" on his liver -he then had a CT scan that showed lesions on his liver. My Dad is not talking about it and me and my sisters are worried about what this means? Does this mean that he also has cancer in his liver? Ciara

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer

Last reply: 28 May 2014 14:32
Hi I am a 51-year-old man and have been living with Stage 4 prostate cancer for 3.5 years now. I would like to talk to any other patients of any age who are dealing with this situation. I'd like to talk about treatments, prospects, quality of life, how you are coping. I have been looking for a support group for a while now and there doesn't seem to be one. Being able to talk to someone else in the same boat would be good for the spirits. I am going through my chemo cycles and am generally coping with life, and I'd like to share my experiences with others. regards Dara

New Cancer Diagnosis and Blog

Last reply: 18 November 2011 17:45
Three days and fours hours ago I was hit by a freight train. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Age: 43, PSA:9.5, Gleeson:9. To cope with what lies ahead in the best way I know how I started a blog at http://www.tommolloy.com. Posts are displayed with the most recent at the top, so start at the bottom ("Day 1") to read them in sequence until I work out how to make it more intuitive. Content is candid and will not be to the taste of everyone. But it is my way of getting my head around this and I hope of some benefit to somebody. Keep fighting the good fight!

Research into the lived experience of prostate cancer

Hi everyone, My name is Gavin Deady. I am a doctoral researcher in the Department of Socciology at NUI Maynooth. My research explores the lived experience of prostate cancer, and how men use online help and support services. I am particularly interested into when and why men begin to use online support services. I am also interested to understand how men support each other online. How does online support differ from face to face support? I would be interested in hearing from any men interested in contributing to the study. You can contact me by email at gavin.deady@gmail.com Please feel free to give your impressions and opinions as you see fit. Everyone is guaranteed the highest level of confidentaility and anonymity, and I hope you will consider making a contribution. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email me. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Regards, Gavin Deady
