Hair Loss
Hi everyone!
I started 4 x AC 2 weeks ago, going back in tomorrow for my next regimen but this morning I noticed lots of my pubic hair coming out when I was drying myself after my shower. Then, out of pure curiosity I gave the bit of stubble on my underarm hair a tug and they came out easily as well. My scalp feels sore, like as if I had my hair tied up very tight all day but only when I run my fingers through my hair.
If the truth be told, I'm delighted all the extra unwanted hair is coming out as I am just sick of Veeting so I hope it continues
Does this sound familar to anyone and any tricks of the trade? (I already got my hair cut up short when I was initially diagnosed, just so my little angels would be used to be with short hair, progressing to no hair.)
Also, any suggestions as to how to deal with my children if they lose the plot if/when my hair goes entirely? I have a wig ordered and a bandana at the ready but they have already told me that they don't want me to have no hair....
Hi ya Avalanche!
I've given my chicks my blessing to be my hairdresser the minute I see chunks falling out.... will have my nearest and dearest on stand-by after bedtime to shave off their handiwork though! They seem up for it, but I just don't want them to do it and then feel sorry for cutting it off. Anyway, I'm not going to worry too far ahead and just take care of it when the time arises.
Enjoy the last of the weekend and have a great week
Hi, Lossing the hair isnt nice but part of it. My teenage son was not impressed at all. If anyone came near the house he was looking for the wig. My daughter on the other hand was great about it. If the wig wasnt sitting correctly she would quietly tell me. I do make jokes about lossing the hair and the fact that it is coming back grey ( it will be easier to colour when it all grows back) We were away on holiday when mine began to fall out. when I came home I cut it off with a number 4 blade. good luck withthe hair cutting
and the treatment

Hi,
Im a man so I know it is a lot different but It was hard for my fiance and my mother to see me lose my hair. I noticed it coming out so I waited til I got a day out of the hospital and I made a big deal out of cutting it. I let my Mam and Fiance do it and I initially put the blade right up the middle making it look funny. I then shaved ity off on one side and telling my mam I was gonna leave it like that for the laugh. I just tried to make it fun and keep the bright side out so as those around me didnt feel sorry for me or sad.
It also helped that my dad shaved his head too(except he was kinda balding anyway) and we both put on black jackets and pretended to be bouncers. took a few pics for facebook and all.
But maybe for the kids u cud just try make it fun in some way shape or form, I see someone suggested let the kids do it for u. Maybe ask Ur partner to cut theres too for support.
But again Ive spent some time in hospital and seen some amazing wigs too.
Thanks for the posts Sunflower and Transplant21.
I can't wait to see what I look like when I'm an egg-head and shur it'll grow back! I have the wig lined up but it just needs to be styled so arranging that now. I was just on the way home from my second dose of chemotherapy when I put my hand through my hair and a fine few strands came out so when I got home I showed my two messers and they had a tug to see if it would happen for them and then they got overly excited and ran to get the kitchen scissors to do the big chop! Gas yolks! Had to rain on their parade as I wanted to wait until Daddy was home to supervise.... Don't think hospital would approve if I got chunks cut out of my noggin
My hair started to go about two weeks after the first chemo, so my family gathered around and clipped it all off no 1 blade we had a right laugh lots of photos taken.I have some hats scarves and bandanas I decided against the wig I have no small children and I dont care what anyone else thinks.
Hi girls,
when I am at home i dont wear the wig or the scraf I have. I had my treatment and lost the hair during the very bad weather. I could not believe how cold my head could get!!!!! I feel so sorry for men who are per bald. I joke about my lack of hair all the time. A sense of humer is needed but I am looking forward to the eye brows and eye lashes comong back.
Hope the treatment is going good

Hi encee,
Hope the chemo going ok. I finished 6 fec beginning of december and hair growing back and is curly. I found that although my wig looked good it sometimes felt irritating.I found a web site bohemia fashions and ordered cotton headliners and skull caps in different colours. I bought long fine scarves from shops eg penneys and dunnes and wound or twisted them around my head on top of headliners. It meant that if I was going out I could match and mix them up. I never realised how small my head would look without hair and it made my head look more a normal size than even a bandana. People commented how great they looked. Also your children can help you twist them and choose which one you wear. Now I have lots of scarves that I still wear.
Hi everyone!
We had a hairdressing party the other night but by Janey tis chilly on the back of my neck! The kiddies are grand now about my short hair, let's see how they take my egg-head. Still loads of hair falling out but at least it's short now so no chance of wrecking the vacuum cleaner or plugging up the shower
Chemotherapy is going grand actually - Im more tired but not as queasy as I was after my first session. Hope it continues!
Thanks guys x
Hi Encee,
Ha yes I remember the surprise body hair loss with chemo. I was happy with the bonus of leg, armpit & pubic hair disappearing especially when having chemo in the summer! Unfortunately it does grow back soon after. Of course the head hair loss is a different kettle of fish. Thankfully I loved my wig as it was blonder then my own hair and looked highlighted and many a time I got complimented on the nice highlights I had from strangers!!Hopefully your wig will be good too. Once you get used to it and stop being paranoid it will fall off it is ok. The bandanas are good for when it is hot and for around the house.
I don't have children so no expert on them. From reading the forums the Mums who prepared their children like you have and tried to make fun of it coped well. Hugs used to have her children hoover her head when the hair was falling out!! I expect they may be a little nervous or maybe embarassed in front of friends but once they see you are ok with it will be fine. Some Mums will probably chip in soon
All the best with your treatment. Hopefully it will fly by.
Best Wishes
A
