ovarian cancer

Last reply: 24 October 2016 12:40
Hi, anyone out there who has been diagnosed with recurrent/metastasis ovarian cancer. Have finished the chemo part (taxol & carboplatin with avastin) and I am on Avastin only. However, down in the dumps this week and concerned about mortality. While there are lots of women like me - I can't find anyone in the same boat. Just wondering if it is normal to have these down times as I have been upbeat until now. Have not told family members about this feeling, as I think they would watch me like a hawk. Mo

What are the symptoms of cancer of the ovary?

Last reply: 12 October 2015 11:14
With cancer of the ovary most women will not notice anything in the early stages. It can take a long time for symptoms to occur. When symptoms do appear, they can be vague and quite mild. These can include: Poor appetite Vague indigestion or nausea Bloated feeling Swollen abdomen-caused by build up of fluid called ascites Pain or dragging sensation in the lower abdomen or side Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge Change in bowel or bladder habits, such as constipation, diarrhoea or wanting to pass urine often Even though these symptoms can be caused by complaints other than cancer, it is very important that you have them checked out by your doctor

Make people more aware

Last reply: 15 June 2010 17:08
Hi, I lost my Mum on Jan 26 2009. She had ovarian cancer. It was diagnosed in July 2007. She had seen a gynaecologist twice during the previous year. I suppose what I want to say is if you know something isn't right, keep persisting. Ovarian cancer symptoms are so vague, it is very hard to diagnose. If I had known then what I know now, I would have insisted on tests being done sooner. Anyway, she's gone now; nothing we can do about that. I would like information on the symptoms etc. to be made more available to the general public. Any ideas?

Mimosa project _ vaccine Abagovomab_Ovarian cancer

Last reply: 10 June 2010 15:56
Hi , I would like to know if in Ireland there is anything similar to Mimosa project and if there is any possibility to be enrolled. Thank you http://www.mimosa-study.com/trial_centres_frame.htm MIMOSA is a demanding multinational trial started in December 2006 with a 9 years of duration. About 900 patients with advanced ovarian cancer who have had an optimal response to the initial treatment (surgery + chemotherapy) have been included in the study with the aim to test the efficacy and safety of the vaccination with Abagovomab for the prevention or the delay of disease’s recurrences. The first results will be available at the end of 2010. WHAT IS ABAGOVOMAB? Abagovomab is an antibody to be used as a therapeutic vaccine for the prevention of recurrences of ovarian cancer

TV Documentary for BBC NI

My name is Eamonn and I'm making a new documentary for BBC Northern Ireland which aims to try and understand more about the psychological, physical and emotional impact that cancer can have on the someone suffering from the illness and their loved ones. We need people to share their stories as part of the film. Please let me know if this is something that you could help us with. Many Thanks Eamonn

I lost my sister to ovarian cancer

I lost my Sister to ovarian cancer in August 2008 and life has not been the same since she left......she had a hysterectomy in the Summer of 06 and admitted herself she didnt take enough care of her health afterwards, like allowing stress into her life (work especially) and ignoring symptoms that were pointing towards something being wrong....by the time she sought help it was too late.....She was told in April of 2008 (just before her 43rd birthday) that she was terminally ill and she was dead by August....every day I miss her, every day I wonder why she is not here.....my advice to any one, who feels that their body isnt working as it should be, go to your GP and keep going until you are heard and taken notice of and something is done for you....and remember nothing that happens in this life whether its work related or relationship related or finances etc, NOTHING is worth so much stress that it ends up killing you.......there is no comfort for those you leave behind.
