Post Surgery Rash

Last reply: 11 January 2013 17:06

Hi, I had a mastectomy six months ago and had an expander insterted. I'm currently waiting to be called to have it replaced with a silcone implant. Two weeks ago I noticed a raised red rash around the scar area, slightly itchy. Should I be concerned considering I'm hoping to be called for surgery in January. I have appointment next week with my Oncologist should I mention this to him?

Thanks Image removed.

I have two expnders in, i was told to ring the breast care nurse to report any problems. A rash could be anything but I would definitely ring your breast care nurse and report the issue!!

How did you find the expander? I find them a bit uncomfortable! Hope the implants don't feel the same.

Thanks for the advice, it seems so long since I was in contact with my BCN, nearly forget her name. I found the expander to be very uncomfortable for the first two months, nearly drove me mad, then settled down the more they expanded it. Gets uncomfortable from time to time, depends on what I have being doing, but used to it now. It's a bit of a long drawn out process, had I fully realised would have gone for straightforward implant. I'm keeping my fingers very much crossed that the implant will be much more comfortable, at this stage that's all I want, forget the aesthetics.

Tell them! I had to get my expander out two weeks ago, and all I noticed was a bit if redness. It probably won't be the same problem, but get it checked to be in the safe side.

Hi, I just want to let you know how I got on. Typically the rash practically disappeared over the weekend, thanks to E45. I was back at the hospital yesterday and mentioned it, I was thoroughly checked out for any signs of inflamation or infection, all clear. They thought it might be casued by my bra being tight and friction, there are some slight pink marks which look like stretch marks to me. Anyway all clear T.G. Thank you for your replies. Hi MaireK

Glad you got it checked out and the main thing all is OK - like that sort of news!
