Perscription

My pharmacy says that the total cost of my medication is not covered under the Drugs Payment Scheme as I am having 2 cycles of chemo per month.
Is this usual?

Hi,

Thank you for posting on the Online Community.

Under the Drugs Payment Scheme an individual or family will not pay more than €114 per calendar month for approved and prescribed drugs and medicines. If you do not have a medical card you will need to pay for the cost of prescribed medicines up to €114 per month. The amount of chemotherapy cycles per month will not impact this.   I have attached information here from the citizens information service about the Drugs Payment Scheme.

It might be helpful to speak with your pharmacist again about this.

If you would like any more information please contact one of the cancer nurses on our Support Line. The Support Line Freephone number is 1800 200 700, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse
