My Dad Has just been diagnosed

Last reply: 17 July 2009 15:58
Hi, My Dad ahs just been diagnosed with prostate Cancer and they say that it is moderate as they did not catch it early. He has been for an MRI (which he hates as he is very clostraphobic) and thus showed some "hotspots" on his liver -he then had a CT scan that showed lesions on his liver. My Dad is not talking about it and me and my sisters are worried about what this means? Does this mean that he also has cancer in his liver? Ciara

Nipple reconstruction

Last reply: 20 October 2009 10:58
Hi guys! I was 26 when I was diagnosed with bc. Treatment including chemo and radiation followed. Managed fine, was very strong mentally through it. I was advised to get genetic testing done as we have a long familly history. Dianosed with brac1 and decided on bilateral mast with immidiate reconstruction(using lit dors musel). Unfor I'm not very happy with results as the scarring is awful front and back. Breasts look completely diff as the shape of scars dont match(behind cloths they look symetrical).Just got date for nipple reconstruction and I'm very nervous for some reason!! Anyone out there that has gone through this? Do the nippels make the breasts look better and more normal? Thanks greta

Dad going into hospital tomorrow

Last reply: 21 October 2009 21:43
Hi everyone, I'm new to this. My Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks ago. Its a substancial tumour at 5cm we were told, but we got a phone call last week saying that they could operate on it. It was the best news we were hoping for. So now he's being admitted tomorrow and they will operate on Thurs. We haven't spoken to the surgeon yet so don't know exactly what it will entail. Have read up about it online here, but was wondering if anyone knew first hand how he will feel after, and what loosely lies ahead for him . He's a young man of 63years, has recently in the last couple of months given up smoking doesn't drink and would be an active man, walks every day and eats well so he is doing everything right. And also if anyone has any ideas of what I can do for him, we are extremly close so want do everything i possibly can. Be great to get some feed back and also hear from people who are going through or gone through it. Oh and keep smiling :)

Waiting

Hi all, just wondering are the time lines normal.. My husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer. It's quite extensive in his right lung and 4 lymph nodes. We haven't have the full report of the pet scan yet but there is a possibility of spread to the liver. Waiting on a brain scan in 2 weeks and an oncologist apt is pending.. He's on holidays at the moment. My husband was diagnosed on 6th of June and between tests etc it's just all waiting and wondering. We have been told that it will be chemo first and even if spread to the liver the treatment will be the same. How long before chemo should start is the norm? 5 weeks nearly since diagnosis and we are gone insane with worry. We have 2 small boys, 6 and 4. I would appreciate anyone's advice or experiences of similar. Thanks

Concern About Breast Ultrasound Delays at St. James’s Clinic

Just turned 43. I had mammograms in 2021 and 2022 which showed multiple cysts on one side. After that, I stopped checking for a a few years as I was scaring myself all the time and couldn’t trust what I was feeling. A few months ago, I started checking again and noticed big changes, in the same area as before, but different. The feeling of the lump now makes me feel physically nauseous. I went to my GP on 17th July and attended the breast clinic at St. James’s today (31st). I was examined by two specialists. The younger female doctor took it seriously and brought in the older male consultant. When I was sitting upright, he initially seemed to dismiss it as probably the same as last time. But when I lay down and he examined me again, he did a sort of double take, exchanged a look with the other doctor, and said it was probably benign. He arranged a mammogram for today and said I’d come back for an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy on another day. I’ve had melanoma before, so even though “probably benign” is reassuring, I can’t help but worry. When I got home, I let the clinic know I’ll be away for a few days with my children in late August ( my first time away in over two years) and asked if there was any chance I’d have the ultrasound before then. I was told no, because there’s a huge backlog, and it’s unlikely I’ll be seen before that. Is this kind of delay common? Has anyone else experienced this? I’m very nervous, of course, but also really concerned about what this means for others who might be in a much more serious situation. The waiting is agonising!

Tamoxifen side effect - body odour

Last reply: 06 August 2025 12:47
I'm having trouble with a so called side effect of Tamoxifen, namely body odour - I have tried countless deodorants, includling mitchum/ vichy/ all natural products/ clarins/ deo... to no avail. I have been in contact with breast unit at Vincents but without a satisfactory answer - one person suggested I wash more frequently - which is fine except I work in an open plan office, very embarrassing and really not practical. I'm not menopausal, thankfully I don't get hot flushes but my temperature shoots up when I'm stressed and bang!! I'm in trouble. Surely someone has a cure??
