Hi lovely people, two weeks ago I got that news, it's lung cancer( non smoker),41 yes of age, first meeting the oncology team said PET scan showed it was also in my thyroid, spine and hip bone...I'm starting Chemo this Friday, the reality will kick in then...
My question is what questions to ask the doctors and nurses again, suppose a lot of it past me by....

Hi Jessi,

I’m so sorry to read of your recent diagnosis of lung cancer, it must have been a huge shock for you, I hope you are keeping well otherwise.

It can be very overwhelming at doctors’ appointments and it is quite common not to take the information in as it can be a very emotional time.  When attending appointments, we always suggest to bring a diary with you, you can write down the questions you have before and this will serve as a prompt to ask the questions and also you can jot down notes to look back on.  When you have your chemotherapy education, the nurses will go through in detail and give you written information on what to expect and what to do if you have any issues, they will also give you contact numbers.  If there is anything you do not understand or are unsure of it is really important to ask these questions.  I have attached a link to our website with information and educational videos on chemotherapy that may be helpful for you.

If you would like to speak with a Cancer nurse for any advice, information or support please call us on 1800 200 700,  we also have recently initiated a remote counselling service to help support those affected by cancer that you  may be interested in

Kind regards and take care,

Cancer Nurse
