Breast cancer

Last reply: 08 August 2020 09:22

Good morning folks.
I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with invasive ductal cancer.
Grade 2. ER / PR positive. Her2 negitive.
It was in my axilly nodes and is positive also.
I had a lumpectomy and axilly clearance last Tuesday.
Just wondering if anyone had this type of cancer and what treatment followed after the surgery.
Sha xx

Hi Shaz

We are sorry to read all that you have been through over the last few weeks. This must be a very anxious time for you. We have volunteers in our peer to peer support who have had breast cancer and you might find it very helpful to speak to one of these ladies so just phone our Nurseline and we can arrange that.See here Your exact treatment may not be the same and certainly everyone copes differently with different side-effects but there would be many similarities that you would find helpful.

As soon as your team has had a multidisciplinary team meeting discussing all your tests results plus your age/family and medical history they will decide on a treatment plan. Your breast care nurse will phone you and arrange consultation with your doctor whether by phone or video call.

Meanwhile our cancer nurses are here to support you during this difficult time at 1800 200 700 Mon-Thurs 9-8 Fri Sat Sun 9-5pm

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse

Hi Shaz this time last year I was in the same position same diagnosis as you I was given chemo and radiotherapy. When that finished I was given the hormone treatment -tamoxifen. This is not to say we will have the exact same treatment but I wanted you to know you will get through it and come out the other side stay positive and best of luck

Hi May-Marie.
Thank you for replying.
It's just the unknown of what to expect.
The last 3 weeks have being such a rollercoaster ride.
Everything happened so quickly, I haven't had time to think or even accept what is happening to me.
I work in healthcare and it's usually me giving care, just hard to accept also that it's me needing care.
I pray I can find the strength to fight this...?.

Hi Shaz,
It’s not easy, I’m just ahead of you, same picture... Take it one day at a time. I’m just finished chemo, I did it and so can you.
The anti nausea drugs work great.
Biggest issue tiredness and mouth issues but once I got advice on care it was manageable and lasted a few days. My chemo might not be like yours in that it was once every 3 weeks for 12 weeks, 4 in total.
Read the literature, contact the daffodil Centre ( found them very good).all my friends dropped homemade dinners , soups etc. this was very handy to have nutritious meals when you don’t have energy to cook.
Best of luck, it will pass x
P.

Hi Girlslikeme.
Thank you for replying.
Had you the same cancer as me. There are just so many questions coming into my head atm, so confused with all these medical terms.
How big was your cancer and how many lymph nodes involved.
I'm just so scared. 😥😥
