A warm Fuzzy feeling - but something just aint right

Last reply: 26 October 2012 21:09

Hello,

My experiences in the world as a cancer patient are all listed below. It was a tough year but so far I, with the help a surgeon, an oncologist and an army of wonderful nurses I have come out the other side. I feel altered but normal enough.

After the chemo ended (Jan of 2012) I was very toxic with a body in complete turmoil. I had an itch all over my torso and this was harder to live with then all the chemo and ops put together. I was also unable to sit still for more then a minute. I remember being very upset when I couldn't get through a little book with my 3 yr old on my lap. I had to walk up and down the room whilst talking to people. I also looked like a chipmunk as a result of putting on weight after the steroids. I then did a detox diet which someone close to me (in the medical Field) designed and as a result, my itch vanished, my excess weight went and I felt non-toxic again. Joy of Joys, I could once again sit and read a book with my child on my lap. That diet and that man are pure brilliant. I truly believe that if you want to cleanse yourself post treatment, a full on detox is so necessary.

It is now 6 months later and my diet has slid back to somewhere between super healthy detox and not great. The reason i write is because I am now having a warm tingly feeling all over my body which has intensified in the last fort-night. It is not unpleasant but it is quite intense when I sit still and am not moving. I intend to phone my oncologist tomorrow for advice but I want to know has anyone else experienced such a sensation.

Thanks in advance for some advice

I believe I have a bit of Neuropathy, which is a known side-effect that happens with Taxol and other chemo drugs. I have done some research and there are drugs which my oncologist may recommend when i see him next week but first I am going to try a natural remedy. I am going to start walking 45 mins a day and to add Vitamin B, folic acid and Magnesium to my diet. I shall report back for anyone who is interested.

Hi OhDarnit,

I saw your post last night and thought it sounded like peripheral neuropathy, though I thought it only affected the hands and feet. Poor you!

There is an older thread you might like to consult

I am 6 months out of chemo now and happy to say that the neuropathy is slowly but surely fading away. I had two pain free days last week Image removed. - nights are a lot better than they used to be but still painful. Image removed. . I believe it can take up to 2 years to go away.

Tell us more about the diet that kept the symptoms at bay these past few months. It sounds intriguing.

All the best

Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

Well it seems I am all talk, I talked the talk but never went for the walk! I am starting to think that pain is the only motivator for me. I am not in any pain due to the tingling at all. I read that previous post and , it's funny how we forget the details but I had awful pains in my feet during and just after the chemo. I remember it being quite sore in the morning first thing but eased off and disappeared after I was up and about. Maybe that was neuropathy also? The diet also totally cleared that up for me. My brother is an Osteopath and he designed the diet for me. It basically involved raw food only and nothing else for the duration. I know it was right for me but I think each individual needs to get specific advice from a professional. It's completely life changing. A lot of people believe that it's a difficult diet to stay on but for me it was easy because I was doing it to get away from a sick place as opposed to other diets which people go on to gt to where they want to be.

Anyway Kathleen, I hope that was helpful to you

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your approach to neuropathy. I'm glad that you found a way to reduce your pain after chemo though as you suggest every individual's solution is different and you are right about the need to get professional advice. I know for sure that my digestive system was way too fragile after chemo for anything raw apart from gentle stuff like lettuce.

I have found that walking and staying as active as possible has been very helpful. At least when I am moving there is no pain Image removed.

I hope things start to improve for you soon!

All the best

Kathleen
