Cancer Diagnosis over the phone during covid

Last reply: 22 July 2020 18:11

I just wondering if anyone has had a diagnosis presented to them over the phone due to the covid crisis. I am a cancer survivor who had a scan recently due to onset symptoms and was due to see my oncologist this coming Friday for the results. I received a call today to say my oncologist will be calling me by phone due to covid.

Hi Cove1951,

Thank you for posting this important question about patients receiving their test results from their Oncologist by phone. This change in practice has occurred throughout the health care system due to COVID 19.  Consults by phone are not ideal particularly for patients. However, it is necessary to keep them safe from risk of infection. If you are worried about your upcoming appointment, I would suggest that you plan you call as you would a normal doctors visit. Have some questions prepared and written out. Also ask a partner or friend to attend the call with you as you can put the phone on speaker. In that way you can discuss the content of with you partner after the meeting ends.

If it would help you to talk about this further, please don’t hesitate to call us on 1800200700 and ask to speak with a nurse.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse

I was diagnosed on the 7th july
And have been up to the hospital every week. It’s not fair you have to do it over the phone
