Hi all, My 73 year old father was diagnosed with this rare aggressive type of skin cancer in Aug 2016, and has undergone surgery , 4 rounds of chemo, 6 weeks of radiotherapy last year and is undergoing 10 more sessions of radiotherapy at the moment. Just wondering if there is anyone out there with experience of this type of cancer ? I have recently found out about immunotherapy (bavencio/ avelumab) treatment for metastatic MCC and see it is being widely used in the states. Is this something that needs to be discussed with the oncologist as to my knowledge it has never been advised as a treatment option and I only discovered by fluke online.any advise greatly appreciated

Good afternoon, thank you for your comment. I’m sorry to read of your fathers diagnosis, it must be very difficult for you all. Unfortunately the Irish Cancer Society do not have any peer support volunteers who have the same condition as your father. It may be helpful to contact a local cancer support group, they may have members that have had similar cancer diagnosis and experiences, they also offer services such as counselling and classes such as meditation to help deal with the emotional effects of cancer, I have attached a link with information https://www.cancer.ie/support/support-in-your-area#sthash.LRs9oset.dpbs. We would always recommend to discuss any treatments with your oncologist, they are in the best position to discuss if it is appropriate for your fathers condition and if it is available. The Nurseline is available on 1800 200 700 if you would like any advice. Kind regards.
