Vein Problems

Last reply: 07 June 2012 17:21

Hi all

Having my third chemo tomorrow. Hand where last chemo was administered is still very sore and veins gone dark brown/black with brown patches on the skin. Started dark red and has changed over the weeks since the last session. Saw GP, game me antibiotics. Took them and still have the problem. Anyone else had issues like this and if so any advice.

Thanks

Hi

Hope veins behaved for you yesterday. My veins are a disaster first it's hunt the vein then the bruises take weeks to disappear but they always get the drugs in and they are doing their job.

Best of luck x

Thanks Madge. They told me it was tracking yesterday and will be there until well after chemo ends. Chemo so toxic it is burning the veins. Still at least I know now. Only 3 more to go so hopefully a vein will be available for each. Don't want to get the port in if I can avoid it. Best wishes to you.

Hiya

My sympathies are with you.Hunt the vein game is no fun!!!!Mine too are MIA and have been since 3rd chemo!!!am finished chemo and on herceptin still so far have managed to avoid port.Im black and blue.Try putting hot water bottle on your arm on way in on day of chemo to keep arm warm it does help a bit and drink plenty of water.

I have 3 burn marks from chemo on hand and arm. They were very sore and one did get infected, but the marks are fading as with everything chemo connected it takes time but does revert.Main thing is the chemo works.

Hope the last 3 go well for you.

xx

Dane 7,
That's a pain that you are having hassle with your veins. I cheated and got a port in (to justify myself though, I was in 16 separate times for chemotherapy and am in the middle of getting 18 treatments of Herceptin - they would be sick of picking me up off the floor if they had to do it using my veins!) but I hear it all the time when I'm in having treatment and as Wilmaone said, wrap your arm with something warm and use the arm warmer the minute you get in and the other thing that is supposedly a good help is to drink loads of water - veins go rogue when not hydrated! So loads of water before, during, after, morning, noon and night.

Hope it gets easier. Take care x
