triple negative breast cancer

Last reply: 13 June 2014 23:25

Hi everyone

This is my first time on the message board so hope Im doing this right. Found out I had Triple Negative BC in April this year. I found my lump completely by accident and even though I have had my surgery and am now facing chemo and radiation I think Im still in shock. I guess I just really wanted to speak to somebody who has been through this type of BC. It seems to be a less common form and anything I have read about it has frightened the bejaysus out of me Image removed.

Thank You

Not triple negative as I was Her2 positive which meant I had herceptin every three weeks for nearly a year. I work with a girl who was diagnosed triple negative the week before me and she's back at work and doing brilliantly so don't be frightened you'll get through it and come out the stronger person for it. Best of luck with everything. This is a good forum to be on xxx

You will I thought I'd never get through it but I am now retired from work since 30th may this year and loving it. Do some volunteer work for cancer society in Vincent's so things are really good. Important to stay positive. Breast cancer is very cureable. Women on here are amazing xx

I was diagnosed triple negative in February, I was pretty frightened at first as it gets bad press and my breast surgeon was not encouraging about it, however my oncologist is much more encouraging : he says that triple negative cancers tend to be particularly chemo sensitive.
I had all my lymph nodes on the affected side removed (4 were cancerous) and recovered really well from surgery. I started chemo in early April and have been getting off really lightly. 4 rounds of AC done, and I'll do the 3rd of 12 weekly taxol tomorrow.
I have pretty much come to terms with the diagnosis now but it really was devastating initially. When I read forums it seemed nearly everyone who had this diagnosis was dealing with recurrences etc, took me a while to realise that most people in remission have no need to post on message boards
I always knew my next door neighbour had had breast cancer at age 27..... after my diagnosis I found out she too was triple negative and 17 years later she has two kids and no recurrence!
Have you had surgery yet?
I hope you are doing ok? I found it a lonely diagnosis until I had that chat with the neighbour as absolutely everyone else I know or even heard of was either hormone or her2 positive.

Hi Mardi
I cant tell you how much relief i felt when I saw your message. Like you all I could think about is the supposed higher rate of reoccurrence and that I have not met anyone with it. I have no problem giving this nasty battle my all but I just want to feel like there is life after all this. Im sure everyone with any type of cancer feels that mind you. I had a wide local incision lumpectomy in May, my lymph nodes came back clear, so like you Im starting 4 rounds of AC and then I think 12 weeks of taxol in about two weeks?? Then some radiation to kill it all off nicely Image removed.Image removed. Am scared of the chemo so its good to know you didnt find it too bad. Hoping everything else goes fab for you xxx

Most if the women on here have got through chemo. It's doable, just pamper yourself and don't try too hard, if you're zonked, sit down, lie down, whatever, don't push yourself. I'm a year and a half out if chemo and life is good thank God. Keep positive xx

This forum is fantastic and when I was feelin crap I would look for support and they were great and I think ladies like us that have come through it are also valuable. Haha I haven't stopped holidaying since. Got a week in lanzarote between lumpectomy and rads and then a cruise in June , a cruise in September and lanzarote in April this year and two weeks with my cousin in Sacramento a few weeks ago and hopefully a cruise in sept. Life is for living. Taking part in the Marie Keating fashion show in October. Oh I cherish life so much and I retired from work on the 30th May, and loving my free time and looking after my parents and bringing them where they want. Happy days. There is life after cancer and it's treatment xxxx. Hope to see you some Friday.
