Reaction to both Tamoxifen/Femara - what's the next option?

Last reply: 25 July 2014 00:09

Hi all,

Has anyone else had a reaction to both Tamoxifen and Femara? I seem to be extremely sensitive to both and now I'm waiting to hear what's my 3rd option.

Just wondering if anyone has had any similar problems.

Thanks Image removed.

Hi Spudburf,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your treatments. Can you tell us a bit more about the reactions you had. Someone might be able to help.

About six weeks ago I changed from one 20 mg tablet of Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) once a day, to two 10 mg tablets that I take morning and evening, so same dose daily but spread out in the day. I have fewer and much less intense hot flushes, far fewer cramps and I sleep much better. Not like before but there has been a huge improvement. I was going to write a separate post but replying to your post seems the right place to share this information.

You might want to look into using a branded rather than a generic product too or fractioning the dose, or at one of the other products available.

I hope you find a solution that works for you.

All the best

Kath

Thank you Kathleen.

With Tamoxifen I got a rash on my face and neck as well as the normal side effects as joint pain, sick tummy, etc. But it was the rash that made my oncologist stop it as when I originally started chemo I had a massive allergic reaction to Taxotere. So I started Femara and after 2 weeks I was like a 90yr old woman!!! Every bone and muscle in my body ached and I had to crawl out of bed so that has just been stopped.

I appear to be very sensitive to drugs!! So I'm just wondering what is next? ie. I'm looking for some helpful tips so when I meet my oncologist I'll have some ideas. Image removed.
