Hi Liz
I woke up once during chemo with an itchy rash but it went away in a few hours. I'm prone to flare ups with sensitive skin so I can't say for sure if it was the treatment.
Hope it goes away soon for you.

Dear Amaryllis,

Sorry to hear that you are suffering an itchy rash. There may be a number of reasons for this happening including the possibility of some type of allergic reaction. We hope that you have successfully contacted your oncology team so that this can be reviewed in case it might be related to anything they have prescribed if you are currently under-going any cancer treatment. They may also be able to recommend you something to help relieve the itch and make you more comfortable.

Please feel that you can contact us here on the National Cancer Helpline on 1 800 200 700 if you would like to speak to a specialist cancer nurse. Our lines are open from 9-7pm Monday to Thursday or 9-5pm on Friday.

We hope that you will feel better soon.
Kind regards, Cancer Information Nurse

Thank you - yes my rash was a side effect of my chemo treatment - particularly related to Taxotere. I was called into St Vincents and immediately put on anti histamines and steroids which cleared the rash within hours. I understand that my next chemo will have to be tweaked to prevent a recurrance.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi Liz,

I had a bad reaction too to my second taxotere shortly after the infusion started. I began to get pains in my back and a shortness of breath and to feel really hot and flushed. We had kinda expected this as I had had a mild reaction to first one. The team in Beaumont were great once I screamed for help!! Within a few seconds I had a team of three nurses around me pulling out drips and pushing in steroids and antihistamines. I started to get worried when they hollered for oxygen however I actually did not need it. Thankfully I was ok to get the whole infusion but at a much slower pace. Final two taxotere were fine with added benefit of zillions of steroids!!!

Best of luck with the last few.
