How long does it take to order a wig, for chemo in jan

Last reply: 09 December 2014 21:56

I am starting chemo AC-T in January Image removed. and am wondering when I should go about getting the wig, now I presume. How long does it take to order the wig and actually receive it.
Is anyone starting chemo in January, I have been told I will have Ac and taxol for 8 sessions every two weeks. This is harder than the one I thought I would get, I thought it might be every 3 weeks, but will just have to get on with it . Any advice from anyone to someone facing into this .

Hi Dubmum
Sorry you're having to join us on the board Image removed.. However what I would say is that I also started AC-T in January of 2014, every 2 weeks like yourself. And it honestly flew. The way I looked at it was it was 16 weeks of treatment vs 18 weeks if you're getting the 6 treatments every 3 weeks, so it was over just a little quicker. I was very lucky in that I had really very little nausea and tiredness although I know everyone reacts differently. It's really the fear of what its like at the start that the worst. Take each day as it comes and you'll be through it before you know it. The Taxol is easier than the AC for most people.
Regarding wigs, I think unless there's an unusual type of wig you want you can mostly just go in and get one without ordering. I took a friend with me who is a hairdresser and she helped me pick out one, although I found the girl in the shop really terrific in matching it to my hairstyle. I also got some bandanas as I found the wig uncomfortable so I really only used it for work, and wore the bandanas outside work. Best of luck with treatment and pm me if you want details of where I got my wig.

Hi DubMum
Sorry you are joining us but you will get good advice here. I was terrified before chemo and I asked loads of questions here. I also was very taken aback when I was told the AC and taxol would be every 2 weeks. I thought I must be a much worse case! I think it depends where you attend. I must admit I found chemo hard but not as bad as I thought it would be. I had awful nausea but there are plenty of drugs for that, just ask, don't suffer on. I found the taxol easier, got aches and pains instead of nausea. But everyone is different and Mamato3 didn't find it too bad. So try not to worry too much, it does fly by and it is doable.
Re the wig, if you live in Dublin, you won't have any problem, so many places do them. I have curly hair which I was told is the hardest to match so mine was ordered in. My hair was already falling out when I went to get it so there wasn't much delay! And do get little caps or scarves cos the wig gets annoying by evening and also in bed your head will be cold without something!
Good luck with everything

Hi Dubmum,

Welcome welcome. Just wanted to message you as I was in your position in July however I had three weekly A/C and then three months of weekly Taxol and even though I found the A/C a bit tough at times I think I had made it worse in my head, I finish my taxol next Tuesday. I bought my wig in Dublin and also got a hair piece that you wear a hat or cap with. Both were available in the shop that day, I think thats the case with most wigs. Like the other girls I use scarves or caps at home at night as my head gets uncomfortable. My hair started to fall out two weeks after my first A/C

Best of luck and ask any questions you need here as they are a great bunch Image removed.
