Herceptin tomorrow

Last reply: 09 April 2023 13:34

Hello. I've had my chemo and my surgery. Now tomorrow I start my herceptin. Its a shot in the thigh every 3 weeks. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Are there any side effects? Will I need to remove my trousers? Thankyou

Hi, I have had 17 herceptin injections so far, one to go.
Okay, so what to expect. You take two paracetamol and a piriton before the injection. You get weighed, blood pressure taken, and the nurse will go through your chart. You have to give a urine sample. Then if everything is OK, you wait a little bit for meds to come from pharmacy. When it is time you will be given a gown to cover yourself with, pull down the trousers and the nurse will then inject the herceptin slowly into your thigh.
I have no side effects from the herceptin, only the piriton causes a bit of tiredness, but that's it. So nothing to worry about. With me it takes usually a bit over an hour, and then I can go home again. I hope that helped you a bit and
I wish you all the best for your treatment.
