Driven demented waiting

Last reply: 27 October 2012 10:55

Only u gang here are the only ones that can appreciate the sleepless nights and pounding heart that's become me over the last 12 days. I am in Eccles st. this thurs morn for my results of a core biopsy. I'm 39 so the statistics are pointing towards a good outcome. But I can't cant can't cope with the wait. My biopsy was on 9th oct. so I'm assuming if it was anything suspect they would have been in touch????

Hi Sasha
Yes we can all totally feel for you, the waiting and worrying is awful. I tried to keep as busy as possible while I was waiting for each result. My husband was dragged out for dog walks at 6am numerous mornings, because I felt better outdoors. If I could have got him out at 4am I would have!
Try watching a box set maybe, anything to keep your mind busy. I've just watched all of Downton Abbey. And I know nearly all the episodes of The Big Bang Theory off by heart. It's something to laugh at.
Just do anything to keep your mind occupied.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Sasha,
I too attended Eccles Street but I was called in early as there was an issue for me. I had all results within a week so I am really thinking if there was an issue for you that you would have heard before now.
Just to let you know that even if there was an issue it can and will be dealt with so I hope this is a little reassuring for you. I really know how you feel but now I feel so amazingly content and happy with my life, way more than even before I was ever diagnosed with breast cancer.
Take care and let us know how it goes,

Josephine, Deefed & Spadge
Thanks so much for taking heed of my little rant. I was at work & was finding it so difficult to be nice & smiley & polite to my grumpy Mon morning customers. Im fine when im at home. With a hubby 2 boys and a dog Im occupied.
I will let ye know how i get on. Will be bringing hubby with me. He came to the mammogram with me but i insisted going for the ultrasound on my own as i thought it'd be straight forward looking at cysts. Got an awful shock when they said something had showed up on the mammogram and they were going to do a core needle biopsy to check it out.
Fibroadenoma with suspect cells?????? was mentioned. Needless to say i barely remember the hour long bus journey home on my own.
Do any of u know if its usual for them to only ultrasound one boob?
I was referred by my GP because of cysts she could feel on both boobs!!
Just thought afterwards it was maybe a missed opportunity to ultrasound both sides...... seen as i was lying there in half my birthday suit anyways! Image removed.

Hi Sasha
I remember the waiting vividly.... And it's pure crap! One way or another you are going to be relieved to get your results. I actually had a pain in my jaw from clenching my teeth together in between having my biopsy and getting my results proper.

I'm no medical expert so I can't offer you any inside information as to the expected outcome of your results; but I can tell you if the results are negative you'll be celebrating for weeks; if they are positive then you will be thanking your lucky stars that you got yourself checked out and with a bit of luck, you will be over it all before you know it.

I hope things go ok, wishing you the best of luck x

Hi Sasha
I think they only do ultrasound on the side with something suspicious.
In my case I went with one lump and only the one lump showed up on the mammogram. However, the ultrasound found a second smaller one. Then the MRI didn't show the second one either! At that stage I worried about the other breast because I'd only had a mammogram on that side. I figured that if the mammo and MRI couldn't see a small lump on one side then maybe it was missing one on the other side. Although they tried telling me that breast cancer on both sides would be very untypical and that the 2 lumps on one side were related, I couldn't let it go and in the end they brought me back for an ultrasound on the other side. No problems detected so I'm sure they know what they are doing, but it did put my mind at rest. See how you get on. Good luck!

Thanks for the support girls.
Encee u are so right about the clenched jaws. My ears have been aching for the last 2 weeks. I'm sure I've been grinding my teeth when I've managed to drop off to sleep!!
Josephine thanks for explaining bout the one boob ultrasound. I will ask them 2moro about maybe doing the other one at some stage just for peace of mind.
I'm feeling quite calm and chilled today. I'm prepared for anything they tell me. At least the waiting will be over. If it is anything abnormal well it'll be a blip of about 18 mths in my life.
Roll on tonight til I sit down with a glass of vino. xxx
