Diep reconstruction

Last reply: 07 February 2014 10:03

Hi girls,
Due to have bi lateral diep reconstruction in June with tissue from belly.
Just wondering if anyone has had this type of recon done and what the recovery was like. Kids are 8 and 11 now so not too bad but just wondering how long to get back on my feet.
Best wishes and luck to you all,
Thanks a mill
Bernie xx

Bernie I had a Diep from the tummy last year, just the one breast though, after a mastectomy in 2012. It went really well, was delighted with the results. New boob bit smaller than the other but realistic shape and over clothes you'd never tell. Recovery was tough enough, quite a bit of pain and discomfort for first couple of weeks but it eases - try to have people on hand as you won't be up for much at first, and you can't drive for few weeks either. Tummy is still quite flat, so that's a bonus Image removed. scar is massive though and still itchy at times. I use bio oil supposed to be help it fade in time. Getting my nipple put on (day procedure) at the end of month. Happy days. Best of luck with it all.

Hi Kazoo,
Thanks a mill for all the info great to hear you are happy with your results. I had 2 separate mastectomies as one was later for preventative reasons due to brca2. I had implants put in but they haven't settled they are rock hard.
I thought first they might change implants but surgeon said same problem could happen again. The diep sounds like a long op and recovery but I like the idea of it being a permanent fix and a bit more natural flat tummy sounds a bonus Image removed. Hoping to have op in June.
Good luck with your nipple recon will be great to have it all finished for you.
Thanks again
Bernie x
