COVID and School going children

Last reply: 30 November 2021 11:54

Hello

I have finished 4 x AC Chemo sessions and am starting weekly Taxol and others Chemo sessions from this week.
My daughter is and there are cases of Covid in her school. The school are great and communicating with parents - so I kept herself off for the last 10 days.

I also don't want her to miss out too much - and am in a quandry as to send her back in or not.

What are others doing? Thanks

Dear Mrs. H

Thank you for posting on our online community. I am hoping you will hear from other parents soon. It is difficult for all concerned. I am hoping from your post that your daughter has not been identified as a close contact and also that you have had the booster dose. It is great to hear how well the school are communicating with the parents.

Generally as stated on the HSE website it is considered that children living with family members who are at ‘very high risk’ category can attend school and it is felt that it is important for the child’s overall well-being to do so. I think this is your concern now.  The priority is that you and your family continue to follow all current advice on how to minimise your risk of contracting Covid through hand washing etc. School pick-up and drop off are a concern as it is hard to not talk to another parent you know so if it is possible to avoid this, that is also recommended.

Would you like to phone us to discuss it . Our phone number is 1800 200 700, Mon- Fri 9-5pm.  We are all cancer nurses here and would very much like to support you at this time.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse
