breast lump

Last reply: 22 July 2020 19:20

Hi I found a small lump in my right breast which my GP found straight away and gave me an urgent referral for the Mater Hospital, this was on the 12th March, i rang the breast clinic in the Mater Hospital and was told due to the ongoing Corona Virus all appointments have been paused for the time being and that referrals are being looked at. This is a very worrying time for everyone and I completely understand that resources are needed to help with the Corona Virus but does this mean all other urgent medical appointments and screenings such as breast lumps are not being done at the moment. Honestly going out of my mind worrying and the wait is awful, thank you.

I know that feeling. I'm waiting on word myself and I'm going out of my mind. Cant function or anything. Not sleeping right, lying on etc.
But I'm hoping be called soon. Did they say , whether you would be contacted by phone or letter?

Hi Finn

This is a very anxious time for you. Currently the guidelines are still the same in the breast clinics and referrals marked urgent and need to be seen within 2 weeks are being seen within this time frame. I do not know who you spoke to when you rang the breast clinic but if you want to ring again you can ask to speak to the Breast Care Manager. Regardless you will get a call from them to triage you before you go into the clinic to make sure you do not have symptoms of the corona virus or have not been in contact with someone who has it. They will also tell you where exactly you will be seen as some locations are rearranged ie to the private hospitals.

Do remain vigilant to the HSE  guidelines especially re hand and respiratory hygiene and social distancing while you wait  see here

If you would find it helpful you can also  phone our Nurseline at 1800 200 700 Mon-Thurs 9-8pm Fri Sat Sun 9-5pm

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse

Hi ladies I'm in the same boat, I spoke to a nurse in the Hermitage in Lucan this morning and they are running private screenings at the price of €180. I'm awaiting an appointment in the coming weeks, very easy to deal with. Hope this helps xx

I was seen by my GP on the 10th april, wasn’t seen till 21st June and diagnosed on the 7th July. I rang my GP twice and then rang the breast cancer clinic at st james, it took a while but I was persistent. Keep at them
