Bleeding on Tamoxifen - Periods back?

Last reply: 05 March 2014 14:47

Hi Guys

Sorry its been ages since I have been on here. Am just browsing through all the posts.

I was just wondering I have been on Tamoxifen for 8 months now and this week I "sort of" had a period I think (first one in 14 months) I presume I wouldnt get any more as am 48 (dont tell anyone) and thought I was through menopause.

I googled a little bit about it and some people say I shoudl get it checked out. Its not like a regular period even though I had the symptons, sore belly, narkiness Image removed. etc....

If it happened anyone else did you get it checked out or maybe it is just my periods coming back. Sorry to sound gory but there is not a lot of blood sort of like a few very small clots but it is constant.

THanks Ladies

Hope your all doing well. I have second recon op in April new boob good bit smaller than old one (which is not fab and perky and a lovely size thanks to the last op) More fat injections so lipo for me - happy days.... has to be some payback on this cancer trail!!!

Hi Deefed

Good to have you back! I've been on tamoxifen since June and like you all periods have stopped completely.. I think if it were me I would get this one checked.. I'm pretty sure I remember the oncologist telling me to report any unusual bleeding as tamoxifen can make you more susceptible to a heap of stuff Image removed.. Ps I'm half a century old this year Image removed.

Hi Dee. If I remember you and I were diagnosed around same time - though you had chemo first & then mastectomy whereas I had it other way around....anyway have been on tamoxifen since last July too & haven't had any bleeding at all -though still having plenty of hot flushes most nights & horrible taste in my mouth.
Just had a quick look at the Tamox info leaflet and vaginal disturbances including bleeding is listed as a common sideeffect but would still give ur oncologist a call.
Take care
Liz

Hello Dee!
I agree with all that advise you to get it checked out.
In my case, I am still having my period, and it is regular as clockwork - but what I have found is that I need to watch the calendar (which I had never ever done before), because I get few of the early symptoms that used to trigger tampax purchases Image removed. I also find that for a day or two the blood flow is quite strong, with some of the type of small clots you describe.
I would get myself checked out if my periods were to suddenly stop, and in your case as T stopped your periods, I think some bleeding constitutes something worth investigating, even if it is not sinister.
Good luck and take care!
Catherine

Thanks Ladies for all the replies. I got in contact with my oncology nurse (well a oncology nurse) and told her about this and the fact that I had headaches. They asked if I suffered from High Blood Pressure which I have done in recent months she told me to get checked asap. Went down yesterday and it was sky high will get a machine to take home for 24 hour monitoring. In relation to the period they will check this and maybe I will have a scan.

Feel very relieved I checked I out. Bit scary about Blood Pressure it was 170/110..... very very high....
