Anyone on Zoladex with Tamoxifen

Last reply: 21 July 2015 11:52

Hi All,
I'm curious if anyone is on the Zoladex implant/injection with their Tamoxifen?
Also wondering if any oncologists in Ireland are upping Tamoxifen to 10 years (rather than 5)?
I'm still under my GP in the UK, but concerned if I want to move back home what the treatment plan will be....

Hi better soon,

If I recollect correctly zoladex is for ovarian suppression? I was not on zoladex rather triptorellen as part of the SOFT trial for OS.

I finished the trial in Jan 2015 and had bloods checked in May to find that my body was reverting out of menopause at the ripe old age of 46 and back to normal though I have had no period yet. Due to the increase in hormones raging about my body, Onc decided that tamoxifen might be a good idea so I am on it two month now and assuming no major SE's I'll be on it for 5 years (on the basis that the new recommendations for Tamoxifen is 10years. Just to add I was not on tamoxifen as part of the trial rather I was randomised to the AI (examesthane or Aromastin) plus OS.

Hope this helps.

Hi bettersoon,
I have just started zoladex with tamoxifen to address some issues I was having on monthly basis. My oncologist felt it was better to get hormones back under control. The plan is to see how I tolerate it and then possibly to move to AI in time, possibly with ovaries out, but I am 43 and my family is complete so its less of an issue for me. I did ask my oncologist how long I would be on tamox, would it be 5 or 10 years but she wouldn't give me a timescale as I think she feels a lot can happen in 5 or 10 years and we take things as they come. I think this whole area of hormone therapy is changing quite a lot, so the protocols for 5/10 years on tamox or using zoladex in combination are probably not set in stone here so it would depend on your oncologist here, but it would be hard to see why they would change your current meds without reason. Let me know if you have any other questions
