8th and Final Chemo tomorrow and Op and Recon April

Last reply: 21 March 2013 17:26

HI Girls

Its been so long since I have been on this have no reason why really apart from the fact that.....emmm.... what did I say? My brain is mush!

Met with plastics last week (or week before) really wanted a recon with mascetomy. Decided to go for it even though I am having RT so they are unsure if it will take. This is the way I want to do it give it a lash and if it fails I will do it again later!

Cant believe 6 months of chemo will be over tomorrow - yippee yippee yippeee

Op 23rd April. Sorry to see we have two new people here minefield and leitrim? I am too lazy to check the names again I too had invasive lobular and am doing great - minefield I just pm'd you as you sound quite similar to my diagnosis.

Thats it girls - hopefully getting pumped with poisin for last time - thankfully it has so worked for me and the tumour is really shrinking and all happy

xxx

Best of luck Dee - can't believe you are finshed your chemo. I had my mastectomy before my chemo - and the op definitely wasn't as bad as the whole chemo process - so hopefully the worst part is over for you. I also went for the tissue expander route for reconstruction - even though I'll be having radiotherapy too - defintely the least invasive of the different options. Ive had five expansions by now and my 'new' boob is almost the size of the other one - though much higher up - still hoping gravity will bring it down and might also have a lift on the other side...

Anyway - congrats on getting over the first and worst hurdle and good luck with the next stage.

hi amarlis

Great to hear your recon went well - do the expansions take long or is it just popping in and they expand by pump?

Here is a photo of me yesterday!

Hi Dee
Sorry for late reply - havent been on the site for a while.
The expansions are a complete doddle - it takes 5 mins for the plastic surgeon to inject 10mls of saline solution into the implant through a port - so you dont even feel a needlle.
The first time the sensation immediately afterwards was a little strange - a bit like when you were breast feeding and you really needed to express the milk or feed your baby. : Image removed. ...but its not sore at all.
Will find out next week whether I need to have my boob deflated now before the radiotherapy - apparently there is some riisk that your skin will be more affected by the radiation if it is too taut/tight....
Who is your plastic surgeon? i have Caitriona Lawlor who I really like.
Talk soon
Liz
