Bowel cancer survivors

Last reply: 01 March 2021 10:23

Hi All,

My Mam (62, fit and healthy otherwise) has just been diagnosed with stage 4 Bowel cancer. It was present in one lymph node and it is present in the liver also (we are not sure to what extent at this stage). She has had the tumour removed and has to wait 5 weeks before starting chemo (to recover from surgery first). They are going to try to shrink tumour in liver before removing. We are beyond devastated - as im sure everyone is fighting this disease.
Anyway I'd love to know of some positive stories of recovery etc in relation to bowel cancer, stage 4 if possible Please I just really need some hope xx

Dear Aish

I am sorry to see you have not had a reply from others yet. This must be a very difficult time for you, your Mam and all the family. I hope your Mam is coping ok with the chemotherapy. As you can imagine no 2 situations are ever the same. It will be beneficial that she is relatively quiet young plus fit and healthy to both tolerate the chemotherapy and hopefully have the tumour surgically removed. Her consultant will be in the best position to advise you all on his hopes with her treatment. The shock & worry must be tremendous for all of you. If you or your Mam would like to speak to a cancer nurse or a counsellor we can arrange that if you phone us on our support line at 1800 200 700.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse
