SCLC successful 2nd course of chemo

Last reply: 27 March 2015 12:55

Update: Husband diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer (sclc) and had 4 sessions of chemo (etopoisde & carboplatin) in 2013. Then after 6 months cancer active again, so 2nd course of chemo (same drugs) in 2014. CT scan in April 2014 shows the chemo was successful in shrinking the cancer.
Wanted to share this as there are so few good/positive stories about sclc, but also just to say it is all individual to the person.

Hi cwitch,
my husband also has/had SCLC diagnosed last July 2013. He has had 6 months of chemo (etopoisde & carboplatin) 30 chest radiation and 15 PCI radiation sessions. He has had a few CT scans but has yet to be told if any of his treatments worked. It's been 6 months since his treatments ended and we are still in limbo we did ask questions but so far any answers have been very evasive. It is great to read a successful story like your husbands.
Continued good health to you both.
Lynne

Update at July 2014: June 2014 fluid on heart, breathing bad, drained, then operation for permanent drain. No improvement in breathing. Scan. Cancer is active again, so maybe 2nd session of chemo was not so successful afterall. Sudden changes, v difficult. Now started on Irinotecan. We have hope, always, everyone should. xC

Update: My husband encountered many problems including fluid on heart and lungs and finally an infection. He passed away on 18th August 2014, at home with me (his wife), his brother and the wonderful Irish Cancer Society Nurse. RIP.

Hi CWitch
I would just like to offer my sincerest sympathies to you. I had read some of your posts and was delighted with your good news in April. But unfortunately cancer is very unpredictable. I'm glad you had the services of the cancer societies nurse at the end. Thinking of you.
Liz

cwitch, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Cancer is a horrible, indiscriminate disease, where there's a rollercoaster of ups and downs that we get little choice in. Take any support you can from family and friends and the ICS staff in the weeks and months ahead. RIP to your husband. Take care x

Dear Cwitch

I'm so sorry that your husband passed away. My heart goes out to you, especially with the highs and lows that you had this year. I loved seeing your little posts, perfectly to the point, but always with hope factored in.

I just want you to know I'm thinking of you and everyone that is affected by the loss of your husband.

Take care xx

Daffodil Day - a wonderful day for Irish Cancer Society.
If anyone is going through SCLC and would like to ask me any questions please do not hesitate to. It can be difficult to locate someone with the same type of cancer, so if am here for you. BUT please do remember, it is all very individual -a fingerprint. xC
