Sibling cancers - any other experience of this?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of September - had two different types of tumour in my right breast and had a third tumour on one of my lymph glands. I had a mastectomy and axillary clearance surgery in late October and I'm now going through 6 sessions of chemo before I start radiotherapy.
My older brother was ill over the Christmas, was admitted for pneumonia and was finally diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia.
He is now also being treated with chemo.
Our mum died 12 years ago from a brain tumour but apart from that there is no history of cancer in our family.
Are there any other cases where siblings are going through cancer at the same time - could there be any common connection between breast cancer and AML?
Any further words of advice as to how I can be of help to my brother?

HI Amaryliss sorry to hear that awful news.... my God if it not one thing its the other. Sorry have no words of wisdom for you maybe talk to someone in the Irish Cancer Society and see if they have any experience with it.
Personally I think its quite unusual that the both of you are going through it at the same time - I mean what are the odds of that very low I would say.
I suppose all you can do is support your brother help him when you can but remember you are also sick and have to get better too.

I was diagnosed in August. I am an only child and my father has had lung cancer in 1996, prostate cancer in 1998 and had a tumour removed near his appendix two years ago and my mother had colon cancer in 1999. I personally don't think any are related. Good thing is that we are all ok or in my case going to be ok. So funny to say but we are lucky . Hope you and your brother will be the same xxx
