Nausea

Last reply: 23 May 2011 16:00

What are ye doing/been given for nausea? I had dreadful nausea with my third round of chemo. Even though I've only 1 (tg!) to go I don't relish the thought of the nausea again. Tia

What chemo coctail are you on? AC???

What drugs are you currently taking???

I was on steriods and Emend for my first poison but it was not enough. I was in bed for nearly 3 days. I never actually got sick, just felt like it all the time. I told the medics and they prescribed Zofran. It was a lifesaver. Felt mostly normal after the next chemo. Did not need to take to bed other than to rest. Taste buds were 'off' but I was able to eat. Ask the medics for more anti emetics (sp?). Remember if you have nausea the docs are not looking after you properly. There are enough drug options to combat nausea these days, you just need to find the right ones.

Docetaxol and cyclophosphamide is my cocktail! The nausea wasn't a problem for the first 2. I take the steroids and have domerid which didn't seem to do anything for the nausea. My taste is also affected. I'll check with the medics to see if they'll prescribe me something. There was just one day where I wasn't able to eat and I'm able to be up but rest most of the day.

Ok a slightly different cocktail then me. If you do day 10 bloods, say it to the nurses then so that they might organised a script before your next chemo. You may have to push them to prescribe something else but honestly, you should not have to feel awful as there are so many options out there to counter the side effects of chemo.

Good luck

I didn't have too much nausea - more like a slight upset stomach for a couple of days. I found peppermint tea great with my major symptom which was burping Image removed.

I also thought I was having enough drugs pumped into me so the tea was a good alternative to taking more.

Hi,

I was getting big bags of Chemo as an inpatient and they didnt make me sick. Then when i was comin in daily for this 2.5mg shot, half hour later I was so sick.

I tried everything. Nothing worked for me and LINDY LU said above that its just a matter of finding the right cocktail.

Finally what worked for me was lorazepam. They are more of a muscle relaxant/seditive but they really helped me and they relaxed the muscles in my stomach and back from the constant vomiting.

Another thing that helped a bit was ginger nut biscuits. Its all I could really eat and I ate just plain icepops too.

Hope this helps

Thanks for replies - am on again next Monday for the last one and will see if I can get something else to take. Though I expect I'll tolerate it better knowing it's my last!! We have mint growing outside and I make tea from it. Also will try the ginger nut biscuits for the days I can't eat much.

All the best to everyone
