Tamoxifen

Last reply: 25 July 2022 15:11

Hi, I am about to start Tamoxifen for five years. I had surgery and completed chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I am still receiving herceptin every 3 weeks. I was wondering whether it would be OK to have the occasional drink, not even every week.
Thanks for any advice

Hi ‘Libra1975’

Thank you for posting on our online community Ask the Nurse section. I am sorry to read all that you have been through and herceptin still on going and tamoxifen next. It is a long road. I do hope you are getting through it ok.

Regarding your question it is very rare to develop any side effects from herceptin in the liver nonetheless it is still safer to run your question past your oncology team who have access to your medical notes. I would hope and expect that they will say your wishes to have the occasional drink would be safe and as you say not even every week!

Many people would find that their tolerance has changed and find themselves drinking lots of water with a small drink or dilute it with a spritzer.

We are all cancer nurses here on our support line and we have a lot of information and a wide variety of support for those going through or coming up to the end of their treatment. It would be really nice to talk to you on the phone and hear from you how you are generally and what it is that you would find helpful. So often hearing more information can help to know what is good advice.

Our phone number is 1800 200 700. We are all cancer nurses on our support line if you would like to phone us between 9-5 Mon- Fri.

Kind regards
