Joint pain/stiffness

Last reply: 04 August 2023 23:13

Hi.
I've recently been started on 2.5mg of Letrozole daily, as part of my breast cancer treatment. I've also just completed a course of Radiotherapy.
This is week 4 of the Letrozole treatment, I've noticed my joints have become quite stiff and painful, just wondering, will this settle over time, or is this going to be long term, its making me a bit miserable to be honest. I'm due back to my Oncologist in the next few weeks.

Hi Sunnyshe, I have been on Letrozole for the past year, and unfortunately I still have the joint pain and stiffness. I started Yoga which really helps, exercise or even walking also. I am sitting for most of the day in work which doesn’t help so I make sure to get up every so often. It takes a bit of getting used to but it is keeping safe so keep that at the forefront of your mind. I hope the appointment with your oncologist goes well x

Hi Sunnyshe,

Thank you for posting to the online community.

I am sorry to read that you are having joint pain and stiffness from your letrozole treatment. This can be a common side effect of this medication but can settle over time. I would recommend that you contact your oncology team to highlight this so it can be reviewed when you attend for your appointment. I have attached some information on Joint Pain here and ways to manage it.

If you would like to speak with a cancer nurse regarding this you can contact our supportline on 1800 200 700, Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse

hi there.
I have been on letrozole for over a year now and the first 6 months were pretty awful. pain so bad in my feet it felt like my bones were broken and put back badly. But a god send has been a supplement of Glucosamine and Chondroitin. But it takes 3 months on it before u notice a change for the better. I used to be like an old woman getting up from my chair but that has lessened. I also from the get go....after doing some research...demanded that my pharmacy provide me with the original Femara rather than a generic version as the original is said to have less side effects. I would also advise that u walk a bit if possible as that also helps with the stiffness and pain. I hope u are doing well. hugs. x. J
