Hi, can cancer patients use Biotin shampoo? Someone I know was using it before his diagnosis to prevent male pattern baldness. He has continued though out chemo and radiotherapy. Is that ok?

Thank you for your post on our online community.

There are many products for new hair growth and for thinning hair. A person whose is receiving treatment for cancer and have been told by their oncology team that it may cause hair loss or hair thinning will be advised to choose hair products that is gentle on their scalp and free from harsh chemicals.

For advice and suggestions, we would encourage everyone to speak to their oncology nurse or they can phone our support line here at 1800 200 700. We are all cancer nurses here and can give some useful ‘hints and tips’ regarding caring for your scalp and new hair growth during and after treatment.

Kind regards
