Dear Jeano

Thank you for posting a message on our Ask a Nurse section.

It is good to hear your father is doing very well on hormone therapy. There are a number of reasons that may be why your father is having a loose motion every day. Diarrhea would generally be when this happens 3 or more times a day. We would suggest he speaks to his doctor about what the cause might be-whether it is past treatment related/cancer related/an infection/ intolerance in his diet. It would be so much better to know the cause before making any dietary changes or taking medication for it.

Nonetheless for loose bowel motion it is important not to get dehydrated- so sipping liquids throughout the day would be advisable. Eating smaller portions more often of easier to digest foods might help but it would be better to speak to you on the phone about the various tips on managing loose bowel motion.

If you could phone us at 1800 200 700 we are all cancer nurses here and we would like to discuss this further.  We are here Mon- Fri 9-5pm

Kind regards
