Oesophageal Cancer

Last reply: 27 August 2015 10:01

Hi all, have just joined the message board and have started this thread on oesophageal cancer. My husband was diagnosed a few months ago. It is a cancer which appears to be increasing in incidence, so I am sure that there are some people (patients, survivors, carers, etc.) who may wish to chat. I am happy to share our experiences thus far, and offer/receive any advice.

My mother in law had oesophageal cancer nine years ago and although they couldn't operate the treatment of chemo reduced it down and she was able to swallow again. Unfortunately the following year it started to spread to her lungs. She had a good five years where she enjoyed life she was just 79 when she passed away in 2008 She wasn't a drinker or smoker but did have cancer in her saliva glands in 1992.

Hi WicklowLady, Sorry to hear that your mother-in-law passed away, but it sounds as if she managed to have some good quality time for a number of years. Thank you for your response, and best of luck with your own progress. It looks from your signature that you are doing very well

Yes lottie she did unfortunately it spread to her lungs but the oesophageal tumour never grew back. Yes she went Canada to her daughters in the summer and enjoyed life. I'm doing ok glad that chemo is finished . I am up in the morning for the results of my lumpectomy so I'm anxious about that but please God everything will be ok. It's been a strange journey
