Grandmother with grandchildren

Leaving a gift to the Irish Cancer Society in your will is an effective way to ensure the protection and care of your children and their children.

You don't need to be wealthy to give a significant gift to people affected by cancer. And you can make a substantial contribution that costs nothing during your lifetime.

Together, we can ensure that fewer people get cancer and those who do have better outcomes.

The difference you can make with a gift in your will

Creating a future without cancer will only happen because people like you want it to happen. The Government provides virtually no money at all. A gift in your will makes a huge difference to the research and cancer care that will make the world a better place for today’s little ones to grow up.

  • €500 can help fund a researcher to find better ways to diagnose and treat cancer for one week
  • €1,000 could fund a sequencing experiment which would identify all of the genes that are switched on in a cancer cell
  • €5,000 can help fund two months of research into finding better ways to diagnose and treat cancer
  • €10,000 can help a group of researchers, from many different areas of expertise, to work together on finding the next breakthrough
  • €50,000 can fund a research scholarship program for a whole year
  • €125,000 can put a new Daffodil Centre into a hospital so that patients and families have help where they need it
  • €150,000 can help fund a research scholarship for three years

Your legacy could be a future without cancer.

Leaving a gift in your will is easier than you might think

When it comes to deciding on your will, many people, after they have provided for their family and friends, also choose to leave a gift to a cause close to their hearts. By leaving a gift to the Irish Cancer Society, you will be improving cancer treatment and patient care for generations to come.

The type and amount of your legacy gift is entirely up to you. Legacy gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated and have a powerful and positive impact on our work. Leaving a gift in your Will to the Irish Cancer Society won’t cost you anything in your lifetime but your generous spirit will live on well into the future.

There are three kinds of legacy you may leave:

  1. Pecuniary legacy: a legacy gift of a fixed sum of money.
  2. Specific legacy: a particular item of value can be bequeathed. This can include stocks and shares, proceeds of a life insurance policy, property, furniture or jewellery.
  3. Resiudary legacy: the whole or a percentage of your estate after providing for your loved ones and covering administrative expenses.

The decision to give is a personal one, and as such, the choice to notify us is entirely yours. But we hope you will consider letting us know you have left a legacy to the Irish Cancer Society, as it gives us the chance to thank you, and it allows us to plan for the future.

If you would like all of your gift to be spent on cancer research, please let us or your solicitor know.

Can we help you make your decision?
