Shave or Dye fundraising from home
During this time the safety and health of our supporters is more important than ever. So we want to provide you with some ways to fundraise from home with your Shave or Dye event and still have fun!
- Fundraise online – learn about how to setup an online fundraising page here.
- Broadcast your event on Facebook Live – You can create an event on Facebook for your shave or dye to let your friends and family know when they can tune in to see your big shave or colourful dye! On the day you can stream the shave on the Facebook event for all to see and interact with everyone to encourage them to donate.
- Take to Instagram – You can host a live event on Instagram to let people follow your shaving story and direct them to where they can donate. You could post stories leading up to the event to let people choose what colour or what style to shave your hair. To vote, you have to donate!
- Let the people choose! – If you are unsure of whether you want to shave or dye your hair you can have your friends and family on social media choose which one. For each donation they make they can cast their vote for which option you should do! Update them throughout the week on what style is in the lead.
Stuck in their homes and looking for a fun way to connect with each other, members of Trinity College's Drama Society hosted a Shave or Dye fundraiser.
"We had so much fun during the event and were delighted to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society in the process," says Daire Ó Muirí of Trinity's DU Players.
"Thirteen members of DU Players took part in the Shave or Dye. We set up a Facebook event page for it; some of us went live on the event page and others posted photos/videos of their progress.
"We've raised almost €2,000 so far. The fact that Daffodil Day couldn't happen in its usual way this year was our driving force to ensure we could raise as much money as possible during the event.
"To anyone thinking of doing a Shave or Dye fundraiser from home, my advice is to just do it! Don't hesitate about it at all. It's the perfect time to alter your hair since we're in a weird time where we won't see people for a while. It's a small thing you can do to make a big difference to someone else's life through the money you raise.
"We also want to thank the Irish Cancer Society for making the process so easy. We wouldn't have known where to start if it wasn't for the Irish Cancer Society's fundraising team."
